Can I hack you?

Or 'Cortana is Freaking Hax.' Basically, in Halo 3, Master Chief is running around without Cortana in his head, but he can still see her and hear her voice from light years away. I am explaining this in my headcanon as cyborg/quantum computer hijinx. But I think it's a repeatable hijinx. The 'how' is complicated, but boils down to Cortana can ( Read more... )

Welcome to camp and congrats!

None of mine are machines. Will can speak mind to mind to people if he chooses -- does that qualify as quantum brain-wave super-solider? (I know nothing about your canon, seriously).

As per the camp network:

Clark (saaaaaaave_me)has probably left the most data on it, what with formerly contributing to camp's newsletter. He probably comes across as earnest, helpful and geeky.

Most of Kon / Superboy's (_superdork_ interactions have happened in person, so I think it's probably obvious he's been around awhile, got m-pregged, is a superhero, but that's it.

Minagawa (voodoochef) only uses the internet to search for recipes/voodoo curses. Will (goodwillrising)still types with one finger. Jack (skullkingabout)knows that it lies to you. None of them have left much in the way of data behind them.

Robin (its_the_mask) on the other hand spends a lot of time on his computer, and has probably looked at a lot of the data that Cortana is going to be checking, so he minimalizes all the traces he leaves behind. He's put out a few calls for barrier information on the comm though, so I ( ... )

To clarify, that Quantum-brainwave thing was aimed at some fairly specific and fairly lulzworthy terminology to come out of Gundam 00 that is almost worthy of inclusion in an episode of Star Trek Voyager. Almost, it's not quite crazy enough technobable for that. We have Gundam 00 cast, and they've been interacting with each other's Quantum Brainwaves fairly heavily, so! I decided to include them in the listing of people who I might be able to hack.
Your people are fairly safe, but Cortana may make a run on Robin's computer security and hack his private files if she gets too bored/curious for her own good. I'll be sure to point out that she is doing this, but I'm hoping to avoid it.

Okay, that makes sense.

Pointing out that she is doing it is good, but I'd also like to have a say in whether or not she succeeds -- I don't doubt that Cortana is capable of doing that, but given the context, it could screw Robin up a lot. So if it did come up, I'd like the option of saying 'this is too much -- can we have camp interfere?' I mean, hopefully it won't come to that, and you've said you'd like to avoid it which I'm great with, but I thought I'd mention this.

That's fine-I'm doing this to feel out limits on what is hackable, and if that's where you want them, I'm cool with that.

My only applicable character is Marvin, who may or may not cause suicidal urges if you get into his head, depending on what you think is funny! Either way, he'll certainly be depressed.

Marvin has two things that would be bad for Cortana-a huge planetary sized excess of processor power, and those suicidal urges. Which would be twisted into homicidal urges in about 1 millisecond, and Cortana would enter the Second stage of Rampancy and it would be sad and messy, and someone would probably have to put her down like Old Yeller before she set off a nuke or something to kill everyone in camp. Halo AIs don't come with good emotional balancing, and can think themselves to death if the problem they are facing is interesting enough for them to steal processor time from vital life-sustaining subroutines. So let's not have our paths cross TOO often Marvin.

Shiny. He can dial it back if they do end up meeting once in a while.

I'll answer this the best I can~
Obviously Tobias isn't a machine or anything, though he can << thoughtspeak >> to people. I doubt it counts for anything, but throwing it out there.

He has used his laptop... about twice. Doesn't really have a need for it with talons, and he only messes with it if it stalks him. So there probably wouldn't be much info to get much from that.

Hi, fellow AI!

KOS-MOS is unhackable in canon (Triple AAA encyption, the top level). Not even her own creator can alter her data. And she's also a genius AI hacker.

So, the only way Cortana could hack her would be an all-out war of attrition that would probably be unfun and result in KOS-MOS pulling out the chainguns. (Although, feel free to talk to me on this. :D We can always plan around issues~!)

KOS-MOS is hooked up to the network 24/7 except for maintenance and since she is a computer there is absolutely no reason why she can't do the blue-woman-personal-space thing, she just has to start a video chat. :D

---

By going back through old data, she won't get much. KOS-MOS tends to interact in person a lot, and everything vital/important is in person or locked very tight. However, you can totally tell that she is a very high grade military AI sans emotions whose programming runs on logic.

As a Military Intelligence AI with a specialization in hacking combat starships and other very secure systems, you can bet that Cortana will probably be planning for that Hack war of attrition. But only in the same way that the entire British nuclear stockpile was pointed at Moscow. It will be a retaliatory plan, just in case policy dictates KOS-MOS needs to go down, and then she'll hope she never has to use it.

Although I am honestly hopeing to design/build you some gear because frankly I think KOS-MOS would remind Cortana of the Chief. And hopefully we can build a working relationship that won't involve a state of armed tension.

Ah, i'm sure we'll manage not to~ KOS-MOS is an immensely zen AI (KOS-MOS is basically the opposite of Cortana: Halo AI's have sucky emotional balancing whereas KOS-MOS swings to the other extreme and is basically an emotion flatline) so as long as Cortana dosn't, y'know, try to kill her or threaten Shion right off the bat, they should be fine.

And KOS-MOS will have a retaliatory plan, as she does for. everyone in camp.

Ooooh, gear~

Watari is a cyborg! Hacking him...could turn out really badly, though. He's hooked into the super/master(?) computer that controls the afterlife, which is, to some extent, also the mind of the god Enma. Since canon doesn't really go into what that actually means and there are crazy firewalls protecting any data, I'm hesitant to give anyone free reign to hack it. Now, he would probably let her in a little bit if she asked, at least enough to communicate with her/see her.

Okita and Yozak hardly ever use their computers. Looking up stuff about Watari will show that he is a scientist, is interested in the barrier and viruses, and that he's good at hiding his trail on the computer.
