Demons

Just when you think that you have battered all the demons into a lifeless bloody pulp and you've sat back and wiped the sweat and grime from your brow, relaxing for the first time in a long time, they resurrect themselves, grow talons sharper than before, and lodge them in your back when you are least prepared.

My tactic is to ignore old demons until they finally just shut up again. I think it's called 'repression.' While I'm doing that, I can focus my attention on battling all the nasty little new demons that immediately come into being as soon as I've tucked the old ones into some moldy corner of my brain. Works great for guilt-demons and feelings-of-inadequacy-demons, less well for general low-self-esteem-demons and... other... demons.

Or was that not the kind of demons you were taking about?
