Egads! Family problems...boyfriend's family problems...AND roommate problems? All mixed in with being overworked and exhausted? I don't envy you and it's no wonder you've been quiet!!! I hope, hope, hope for your sake that things mellow out a bit in the near future.
thanks. me too, but i'm not so sure. some of them might calm down for a bit, but won't truly go away. i'm hoping that i'm taking care of the research annoyances today though, and already those are looking better... go me for being stubborn and not settling with "ok" data but really working for the best data i can get.
When I was looking at grad schools, someone told me that for them it was 9-5, M-F. Not exactly the experience of most of us. The crazy thing is, I think I could meet all the program's requirements with a schedule like that. The problem is all those awesome things we end up choosing to do. So, instead I have a schedule like yours but no commute. I'm looking forward to spring break though. A week of camping in New Mexico! No lab. No homework. No tests. Oh, that will be nice. Are you taking a vacation?
heh. what is funny is i think most grad students i talked to when i visted schools talked about how they completely set their own schedules, which doesn't totally cut it in my lab. we can vary it some, but my advisor is here generally monday through saturday from around 10 am to 6:30 pm, varried more on saturday but also dependant on teaching, but he more or less expects us here when he is. and yet you can't exactly build up vacation time by working longer. he is kind of uncommunicative about vacation time. he basically says two weeks over the summer and one at christmas i think, so that means taking vacations at other times are harder. i am going up to seattle for a week in april which will be my spring break, although this doesn't coincide with classes because as grad students, that schedule doesn't apply to us. and he gets cranky when too many people are gone at once. he's weird.
