it takes time. yoga is not all about flexibility. it just happens to help. yoga is about meditation and listening to your body. don't compare yourself to others in a session. yoga is an individual practice. listen to your body, and practice at your level. it's frustrating to feel so far behind, but you will make greater gains than you could've imagined. in yoga, your skill cannot be judged by how strong or flexible you are, but by how dedicated you are to your body and form. i've been practicing for almost 3 years now and im still not even near perfect. granted my flexibility has developed emmensely, as has my overall focus and core strength; i still have many places to go. it is a constant trial for my body and meditation for my mind. i love it.
as for pilates, that's not really my thing. i don't know much about that practice.
