Brazil set to be named host for 2014 World Cup

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Brazil, the only candidate, was set to be confirmed Tuesday as host of the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA's executive committee was meeting to decide on the 2014 host, and the outcome was considered a virtual formality. Brazil was left as the sole candidate after Colombia pulled out of the running in April.( Read more... )

I wonder if Brazil will also get to host the 2016 Olympics a la Mexico ('68/'70).

I don't know, but Rio will certainly be one of the big cities trying to host the Olympics.
An Olympics is way safer to host than a World Cup nowadays.
Rio do have what it takes to host an Olympics.
I guess we'll see.
