I have a query! Please answer it! It came up in conversation today.

Do you think people who enjoy having fun, have a bubbly personality and are generally happy are unintelligent?

I, of course, think this is complete and utter bullshit, but I'd like to know what everyone else's impressions are. Thanks!

I agree its bullshit to an extent.
Since we can't read people's minds (yet) we don't know what is on the inside so we can't say for sure that by seeing them for the first time that it will give us a strong representation of who they are.

Take me for example.
I can be bubbly sometimes around people who I am most comfortable with. Sometimes I may have a broken brain where nothing I do or say comes out right, but that doesn't make me unintelligent.

In social psychology there is a definition for a judgment like that: the fundamental attribution error, where we perceive someone as such upon first meeting them, then we treat them as such, and eventually these people come to act like out original judgment call on them, BECAUSE how we treat them, not because it pertains to their personality at all. Plus situation isn't accounted for.

That's really interesting. I can see that happening. I think it's silly that people assume such things after they've known the person for awhile too. I suppose people just don't like change too much and routine becomes too easy to ignore.

But is the person in question showing outwardly that they have grown and changed their views, and making an effort to learn about what they can on other issues, in such a way that others can visibly notice the difference ( ... )

I need to find the time to devote to it properly. Didn't you say it was really, really long? I think I'll do itr when exams are done. A kind of easy quiz, so to speak. :)

Well...I personaly find myself more intelligent when I am being pessimistic and upset, than when I'm happy and bubbly because I'm always either one or the other. Doesnt mean we should assume everyone bubbly who have fun are not intelligent, but if I go by how I am...I think mostly when I'm depressed and pissed off and everythings going wrong is when I like to create the most, therefore think more.

Example, I had a very happy stage not too long ago every weekend I was out partying, I was having a blast but all my conversations consisted of things like flirty comments and the boring "how are you", "good" back and forth conversation, basically I thought of nothing and talked of nothing.

Roght now I would not be answering this if I was in a happy stage, the truth is I care less about things when I'm happy...maybe because I'm rarely happy but anyhow thats just my crazy thoughts.

That's...different. I never thought about it that way. However, one could argue you are intelligent with a bubbly personality...most of time/some of the time, what have you. Not thinking all the time doesn't make you unintelligent...because sometimes you got to let yourself feel. *blushes* I mean, someone taught me that, anyways. So yeah, so you like to enjoy yourself once and a while. Feel happiness, giddiness, fun, etc. I'm sorry you aren't going through a happy stage right now. I've been back and forth (boo for school stress!). I hope you feel better soon. Maybe we should get together sometime over the break. I haven't seen you in ages!
