My ears are ringing a bit.

Oh my. Guess who just bought a laptop and a bag to pack it about in? And an extended (3 year) warranty, too? Plus virus protection!

Yeah, kinda gave that away, didn't I?

Ooh! Ooh! But did you guess it all cost me $1200? Bet you didn't.

palmer_kun came with me, sleep-deprived as he was, and helped me narrow down and come to a decision. Big step, holy crap ( Read more... )

Does it have more than a gig of RAM? I hope, for your sake?

Then evidently Vista should be fine, once it installs 734659876398645 critical updates. I hear. I wouldn't know; mine has just the one gig, and it's ridiculously inadequate.

Vista isn't so bad. and really, what OS you use is up to you. Mac is always positing that it's better, but it's so expensive, and if you grew up on Windows, you probably feel safer with that. That's fine.

CONGRATS on the big purchase!! *twirls*

Not so much on the expensive front these days. You can get a nicely loaded Vista box for about the same money as she spent.

Mac isn't necessarily better. It is more stable and relatively free of viruses, and based on Unix. Nice, but not necessary.

Yeah. I'm just used to having to defend my use of Windows against my, like, entire department.

I would have advocated a Mac, but there's not really that HUGE a gap between them and Windows. I only 'switched' recently and while I do love Macs now, I still have almost as many technical woes as I had in my 15 years of using Windows machines.

Plus, if you get a Mac like I did, you have to be careful not to get pulled into the 'cook kid' crew of young upstarts who think their Mac is their identity... Oh look I have a professional camera and can take moody photos in black & white and then blog them on my Macbook....define me......... etc......

Allow my newly created lolcat to cheer your day:
