In which I defeat small-town group-parenting and get my way.

This post in bad_service reminded me of an incident from 1988...

I was fifteen, and had been growing out my hair for about five years. I had very long and wavy hair, and for some reason was taking flak for it at school (from other students and a librarian, of all people), and I decided I needed to cut it. Like, OFF ( Read more... )

small town life, wtf?, funny, the kinfolk are restless tonight

Ah, so that's where Brit got the idea to shave her hair off. ;-)

SHHHH! My Hollywood mojo is supposed to remain anonymous, or it stops working! I LIKE being able to snap my fingers and cause starlets to forget their underwear on short-skirt days.

Except for Tara Reid and Britney Spears. Ew.

Pretty much the opposite from my childhood - I would scream my head off but the bastards cut my hair anyway... I'm pretty sure that's why I turned out this way. I would be a happy mother of 3 and part-time cleaner if they had just left my hair alone! I bet my mother is sorry now...

Parents. The cause of most psychosis, really.

Too true! Little did they know what mutilating a child's head (and ego) could do!

From what I remember your hair is very gorgeous when long. Short it looks really good, but short hair is hard to show off...

My story:
I was only three years old, but I taught them all a lesson for cutting my hair off: I cried for so many consecutive hours that my mom got the hair from the garbage, taped it into a strip, and clipped it to my head to try and shut me up. Nobody did any more than trim my hair until I was 16 and cut it off myself! HAH!

Haha! Good going! WHY did I not think of that??? Oh yeah, would've gotten my butt kicked.. But then I could've just screamed more... Dangit, I should've! Well, I don't know you but I'm proud of you :)
Parents are brutal.

*takes a bow* Ty, ty.

Maybe they tried beating me too, family history doesn't mention it. But it took me one more year to make them stop hitting me: when a crying four year old holds her little belt and says that if you hit her she will hit back because that's fair... I guess it does something to your conscience. Especially because I was hit not as punishment but as coercion to obey. It shows you that you are teaching her to get things through force and fear in life.

So if you ever get to live your childhood over, remember that! :-)
