The rock cracks the hull; jostles the chains at his feet. In the jungle, he meets a man who destroys the ones at his wrists and keeps his masters away. He does not give a reason.
"I will return the favor someday."
Jacob grins, hand on his shoulder. "I know you will."

He leaves his brethren to die in chains. Their anguished cries are whispers on the wind.
He’s asked to forget.

Years later, he buries bodies (for Ben, for Jacob) in a mass grave. It could have been avoided.
He’s told to forget again. He can’t.
