Handy Dandy Mood Theme Installation Guide

Aug 22, 2008 23:18

This is the easiest way that I have found to upload mood themes. It's mostly quick and painless - the most time consuming part I find is waiting for the all the mood theme images to upload to an image hosting site! ;) It may sound a bit complicated at first and using the Admin Console can seem a bit daunting but once you get the hang of it, you'll see what a handy tool it is! :)

How To Upload a Mood Theme

Download the zip file and unzip it.

Upload the 132 mood images in the file to an image hosting site. I recommend Photobucket - it's free to join and it's very easy to upload all your images at once. It is very important at this stage that you do not change the file names when you are uploading them, otherwise you have to manually change every url and bollocks to that!

ETA 23/03/11: It's also important that if you are using Photobucket that you set your album to Public or your images won't show!

Now go to the LJ admin console and in the text box, paste in the following: moodtheme_create "Theme Title" "Short Description"

Replace the "Theme Title" and "Short Description of Theme" text with a title and description of your choice. Like this:

You'll need to remember the title later, so don't just type gibberish! Click execute and the console should give you a number so write it down along with your title, so you don't forget! I usually copy and paste it into a new Notepad file. It should look something like this:

Okay, now open up the "adminconsolecodes.txt" file that's in the zip file. Using the replace feature (Edit>Replace or Ctrl+H) in Notepad, replace the nnnnnn with that number you just wrote down. At this stage you'll also need to replace the http://www.your_url_here.com/ with the url to the place that holds all your images. If you are using Photobucket it should look something like this: http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/a346/example/

Okay, now that you've done all the fiddly bits you'll need to paste your new edited codes into the admin console, and again click execute. Hopefully, you should be shown a list of your accepted codes (lots of green text). If not, you'll have to go back and redo the steps again, as you've most likely missed something.

Now go to the customize page and under the Mood Theme section there is a drop down menu you can use to find your new theme.

Don't forget to save your changes!

Phew! That's it! :D Your mood theme should be right to go!
