If I tried to write a scene like this one, it'd probably be totally lame, but when you do it, it's lovely. I like how few words there are, but that it still becomes very clear how each of them is feeling. The story seems to be hovering somewhere between calmness and angst, which makes for a very interesting atmosphere. Characterisation was spot on, too - JJ refusing to need someone to be there for her and Emily doing her quiet reassurance thing.
Very well done - but I want you to finish that other story, too.
