Oh my goodness! Was I in the right place at the right time or what? :) I just started reading this story a few days ago. It is absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for continuing it, despite your frustrations! You have all the elements perfectly balanced--mutant politics, the high school setting, the emotions, the delightful inclusion of all sorts of Marvel characters, parent-child relationships, friendships--everything fits so beautifully! I love that high school graduation is the moment when Erik could tip either way (towards being Magneto or towards a different future with Charles). Oh heck, I love it all. Clearly your writerly instinct is golden, and you should keep following it!
Wow, I'm glad you're enjoying it! Thank you so much for leaving such a lovely comment, encouragement to keep going is very much appreciated. (Writing is hard! Who knew?)
Yes, graduation is definitely the tipping point. I guess this chapter particularly is all about pushing Erik to the edge, poor boy. And it's shown me just how morally complicated X-Men is, because I honestly don't know what would be the 'right' choice. Though I know which one he's going to make... :D
You can't leave it there you can't leave it there OH DAMMIT YOU LEFT IT THERE. Jesus F Christ, that image of a hatching egg. And the crawly-corner-of-your-eye telepath watching. And the horror Charles felt that Stryker's pride in him was fake. EVERYTHING WAS HAPPINESS AND KITTENS AND DAISIES AND NOW IT'S SOOOOO CREEEEPPYYYY
( ... )
P.P.S. LB Charles vs. FC Erik was perfect and dashing and wonderful, which was good especially because I realised I'd ditched LB Charles somewhere random with the Brotherhood and that wouldn't be easy to write. But I'll reply to all that properly once I've finished.
IT IS TOTALLY YOUR FAULT that I left it there, it only got posted at all as a background to the TCoA... which is really disturbing in a way, but hey, I take my motivation where I can find it. (And ignore my whining, I'll gladly write Charles-and-the-Brotherhood so feel free to leave me there if you like
