Safer With Her

Well, it's years after the fact, but in case anyone stumbles over this community, here's a sequel I wrote to HubrisAuthor’s Note: The story is meant to address how the battle of New Caprica might have gone had Helena Cain still been alive. It’s a sequel to an earlier fic, Hubris, an AU in which the budding civil war in mid Season Two between ( Read more... )

That was an excellent alternate version of events. She got some dignity in the end. I like that you explored the relationship between Helena and Lee. That is one I was always curious about. Well done.

Thank you for commenting! I'm so pleased that you liked this story. I agree that the Lee/Helena dynamic is interesting, especially since they never actually interact on the show, but she's clearly very dubious about him. (Which is a clear sign that she has her own biases, because objectively speaking Lee is the most amazingly capable human in the universe.)

I wrote this story a couple of years ago, and posted it to BSG_2003 back then. How did you come across it here? I had no idea anyone had even looked at this community since 2007.

(Oh, and did you read the previous story, Hubris? I think this story stands pretty well on its own, but I'm curious to know what you think.)

Hee. I'm not sure how I got to this fic. Had you forward dated it for the 1st of January 2011? I think it popped up on bsg_2003 recently and I read it because I was interested in a story that had some Lee & Helena interactions. If not that, I have no idea how I could have found it. (It's also cut directly to the start of the fic and I didn't even realize that there was a previous story. I'll check it out?)

Wow, I posted on Jan 1 just for the heck of it, and the Wireless is still keeping an eye on SSWA and linked to it. I'm astonished.

Anyway, here's a link to the first story, Hubris: http://wyrdwritere.livejournal.com/3680.html

Great story, thank you so much! It's good to see that Admiral had a chance to be justified by Adamas, etc. as the commander.
Though I'm still terribly sad about her death, as it's still so... accidental and unfair))

Thank you for commenting. I am pleased that you enjoyed my story, and I agree with you that Helena's death is terribly sad. However, I think one can debate its fairness (if anyone had an acceptable reason to kill her, it's Laird), and it most certainly wasn't accidental. Laird built the bomb more than a day before he got in that raptor. Had he somehow survived to be tried, it would be for premeditated murder.

Well, maybe accidental is the wrong word. I rather mean this death is a bit unjustified. For example, if the admiral dies in the open battle with cylons, it would be the other case, but so, after the victory... just from the hand of one hurt man among many others safed by her. By the way, never mind, I was just too sorrow for her death in original story :)

I don't know which is sadder: Cain dying just as she comes to see the error of her ways, or Laird for throwing everything away just to get revenge.

I wish I could have thought of a happier ending, but I wanted to keep things as close to canon as possible. And I can't really imagine Cain's story ending any other way.

I appreciate you writing me a comment. Thank you.
