Okay...I started out to write a poem by Inalia for some Land and Sky backround stuff. Ended up with a new small body of poetry, some of which is Land and Sky related and some of which is--er--Vader related. I think the Vader ones work for just about any incarnation of Vader that I'm familiar with, canon or AU. You be the judge. They're all quite short, so I'm just making a single post.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 3 Prompt # 3 Set
Away
The set of your shoulders tells me everything
Everything I don’t want to know
And my soul crumbles
The door is closing
You break away
You fall and I can’t catch you
Your fingers slide from mine forever and I watch you fade away
Still standing
The desert that bore you to me is afire
How have we fallen to this place, you and I?
You leap upon and rend me
You tear out my throat and leave me dying
Still breathing
Choking on you
As your accusations sink into me like fangs
Your flesh melts
Twisted soul burning in the ashes of a body I’ve destroyed
All that’s left of you is in my hand
As I walk away.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 3 Prompt # 9 Angel
Fallen
Once an angel alit in the desert
Silver wings and silken smile
Softness in a sea of coarse grain and anger
She held a secret
Guarded by a sage
Championed by the light
You gave your dreams to her in trust
For a future that was not to be
And your fingers shattered what they could not hold
Your grasping threw it all away
Now you stand alone in a sea of blackened velvet
Seeing only pinprick glimmers
Of a life that used to be
A hope that you abandoned
A truth that you denied
The angel has flown from the desert without you
But not alone.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 2 Prompt # 1 Goodbye
Is This Goodbye?
He stands at the edge of forever
Looking down
And sees your face in his own eyes
He calls
But you refuse to hear
He reaches
But you refuse to touch again
Encased in ice
You smolder
He holds out the truth
That you refuse to know
Blind and deaf
Cut off and floating
You go
Alone
Into the prison of your own heart
That beats against your will
A cage of your own making
Jagged edge of reality
Shard of a past that you cannot abandon
Cannot forget
Cannot erase
You grasp for it and you bleed
You run from it and you come face to face again
With what lives behind the mask
You are alive
But this is not living
You breathe
But you cannot taste the air
You touch
But you cannot feel
He reaches for you
But you refuse to move
Land And Sky
As a note of interest to anyone who cares (
polgarawolf) I think that these are a bit of a departure from Inalia's prefered style. She tends to favor longer, more structured poetry, and that was what I sat down to write. These are what I got, so I'm going to have to explore the possibility that someone encouraged her to try something different while writing her poetry collection about Obi and Padme. I tried to post them in roughly chronological order, meaning that the first one deals with events in Happy Endings and they progress from there through the PT Era. As such, there are vague spoilers for the rest of the series if you can piece things together. There are a few places where wording may seem a bit off; as a Chronicler Inalia is used to writing and reciting poetry in Ka'andesi dialects, so I thought it would work to create the illusion of authenticity if I let the wording be imperfect. According to my notes, the poetry collection was one of her more recent works, which is reflected in the maturity of the subject matter, and would probably account for a tendency for her to process written language in Ka'andesi patterns rather than in Basic.
Also, I will link to these on the
Quote List Post because I'm sure that at some point they will appear (at least partially) as epigraphs in the fic itself.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 3 Prompt # 10 Eyes (Switched From Ball)
Home
The lights in her eyes speak to you
But they promise things that leave you shaking inside
Your future is tucked away in the cloak you hide behind
Neatly mapped for you by choices that you never made
You can’t hear your own voice
You don’t know your name
But she does.
Can you take what she has to give you without losing yourself?
Your need for her leaves you breaking inside
Now you hold the map in your hand and let it go
Watch it sail away, buffeted by the breeze
And your lips on her wrist leave you quaking inside.

Everything
Everything clean and innocent
Woman-child, wide eyed beside me
You smile and I can string the stars in your hair
You touch me and I come apart inside
Everything slick with desire
Seductress, run your fingers over me again
Warm skin against me in the dark
I breathe you and I come alive
I taste you and my dream awakens
Everything that I never have known
Held out to me in you
Whispers of secret softness
Strength that I could never find alone
Take my hand and let me feel again
Touch my face and make me know again
Everything I am in you.

mission_insane Inspired By Songs Table Prompt #1 Are You Out There (Dar Williams)
Chrysalis
Numb
You move through the forms of a life no longer yours
You never know if you’re still awake
You never feel the blood in your veins
You never taste or smell or dream the way you did
When you lay beside her in the desert
When you touched her hand
When her heart beat against you in the dark
When she wept and your hands soothed the tears away
You mouth the words of lessons
Others taught you
And you hear them echo dull and hollow in your ears.
You huddle deep within yourself and hide
Never even hoping for a turn of season
Until you become a husk without her
And in desperation break the shell
To feel and breathe and live again.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 3 Prompt # 8 Sparks
Trying To Hide
The sound of her name sparks a memory
The brush of her fingers against his hand
In his dreams he can feel those fingers in his hair
She smiles and pulls him with her
To a place of tall grass and wildflowers
Where he can breathe in cinnamon from her pores
And feel again
Be alive again
The moment passes
He wakes to a place of high ceilings and cold halls
Where he walks alone
Half living
And wishes he could cut away the pictures
The way he learns to edit what he says
Quietly, he longs for her
He sees her in a swish of fabric
Hears her in a rushing stream
Feels her in sunlight and cool breezes
And knows she’s waiting.

Waking Dream
The sun dances on our skin and gently lulls me
I drift in your arms
As cool wind and meadow grass tease our skin
Your breath comes slow against my ear
And I feel your heartbeat strong and soothing
While sleep tugs at me
And your fingers play soft games along my shoulders
You kiss my hair and I smile against your neck, lost in the scent and feel of you
Until there is only what we become together
And I can dream with you again.

mission_insane Inspired by Songs Table Prompt #3 The End of Summer (Dar Williams)
The End of Summer
Our summer years came dazzling
Rich with sunshine and cool water
I watched our children touch the stars in the sky from atop your shoulders
You watched them learn the land from my hands
Now an autumn wind is blowing
Chill air rustling through the trees.
The drums of war sound louder and will not be silenced.
Their demands are pounded out upon us
And frigid winter takes you from me
Brutally with hail and howling winds
But we will keep a fire burning
And my soul will warm you in the storm
So when warm spring showers touch the plains
To finally wash the snow and ice away
You’ll come to me and breathe the scent of home again
Then we’ll know the taste laughter as we watch their summer turn begin.

Share the Storm
We stood outside in a summer rain
Let the torrent wash our souls clean together
The sky opened to nourish the land
Pouring over me and into you and back again
The land sucked in its fill and so did we
Laughing, we turned up our faces to receive it
Laughing, you threw your arms around me
I drank the rainwater from your lips; I ran my hands along your back
As rivulets poured down your skin
We learned to be thirsty as we had been in the desert
Parched for each other, we learned to be greedy
We learned to share the storm.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 10 Prompt # 10 Paper
Eternity Burned
A pillar crumbles and splits like straw
Chaff on the wind is a bitter breath to take
And all the world remembers is the end
When blade met blade in fruitless destruction
I died with you
You live in me
And neither one survived
My soul is the desert of willing exile
Where a mountain melts
And hope is hidden in a scorching sea
Will it rise before we meet again?
Eternity was made of paper and it tore both of us in two
It set itself ablaze and took us with it
Leaving just a blackened page
With curled and brittle edges
Where I wrote your name
And hid it in my secret chamber
But I can seldom go there now
And someone else must take the key.

mission_insane Unthemed Table 10 Prompt # 10 Paper
Alderaan’s mountains rise in her memories.
Alderaan’s lakes, frozen like mirror glass, reflect her face
Alderaan’s forests bow as the heavens fall in on them
leaving nothing.
Alderaan’s voices cry out in her silence
in her tears
in her passion
Alderaan’s blood
remains
on her hands. Her crime.
She is Alderaan now. Alone.
She stands.
