His eyes are angrier than she’s ever seen and she doesn’t know what to think or say as they stand in the kitchen five feet apart, both looking like they’re scared to move.
The two of them don’t trust each other yet, not at this stage despite the fact that he has more shirts in her drawers than in his own.
“Why are you so suspicious of me?” she asks him, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Because I am,” Punk replies, his arms crossed over his chest.
“Why though?” she asks again and her voice breaks just the slightest bit because they both know the answer.
“I don’t want you to cheat on me,” the words leave him in a hushed tone. “I want to be good enough for you, so that you won’t cheat on me.”
She paused, torn between being hurt and hurting for him. She knew she had made mistakes in the past but she didn’t really think about what her past actions would do to her future partners.
“You are more than good enough,” she said in a soft voice, moving forward to hold his hand.
He hesitated, and then nodded his head, reaching for her hand he laced his fingers through hers and pulled her close enough so that he could kiss her softly on the lips.
She returned the kiss with a soft sigh, cupping his jaw gently before she slid her hand around to grip the back of his neck gently.
“I love you,” she told him, her voice extra soft as she said the words, wanting above all else for him to believe her, for him to believe in her.
Punk nodded his head and nuzzled her neck lightly, “I’m sorry,” his words were apologetic and so was his voice, filled with the words.
“I’m sorry too, I wish we had talked about this earlier,” she kissed his cheek and held him closer, forgiving him, and finally forgiving herself for her past. He would love her, and she him and that would be that.
