I Have Seen the Future and It Creeps Me the F&%$ Out

I don't know if I'm squeamish or what, but there are two recent commercials in heavy rotation that I can't watch; I mean that I literally have to look away until they are over, or change the channel. The first is that AT&T commercial where the texting thumbs have FACES on them. Right, because the world would be better if our fingers were able to ( Read more... )

The Xbox commercial weirds me out, too. The thumbs are annoying, but don't make me shudder the way the hollowed out heads do.

So glad I'm not the only one with these squick triggers.

I know the exact ones you're talking about. The texting one doesn't really bother me, but I agree that the XBOX one is super creepy, but also kind of beautiful like an old clock or something.

I see what you're saying, but I can't bring myself to look at it for long enough to appreciate the steampunky-ness of it.

Welcome back home, BTW!

I have been in the land of having a tv for the past few months after not having broadcast tv or cable for 9 years. Commercials in general freak me out, but those two are particularly disturbing. I hate that xbox commercial, but I still want one.

I don't even want to talk about the thumbs.

I'm slightly uncomfortable at the Xbox commercials, but the the thumbs? So very awful. It's not only a horrible visual, but their voices bother me as well. (Probably because thumbs shouldn't talk!)

They're also spouting some incredibly inane text-speak. Which really just completes the carnival of revulsion.

Yes, indeed. Lisa and I actually both hold up a hand to block our view of the screen. There's a "Kill Volume" button, but no "Kill Picture" button. Why is that? Electronics engineers, get on that RIGHT NOW!
