Announcement: The Sun Inside

Mar 17, 2008 11:22

So here's some good news I've been sitting on for a while: my novella "The Sun Inside" is going to be the first release from the Electrum Novella Series, done by the good people of Rabid Transit Press (formerly Velocity Press). I can tell you this now because pre-ordering is live (via PayPal). That's right, for the low, low, price of $9 you can ( Read more... )

Snurr, baby, who loves ya? Would I lie to you? Listen, ya gotta tell us something about what's in it. If your nearest and dearest said to you, "shut your eyes and open your mouth," would you say Aahh before finding out what it was, at least ballpark? Am I gonna bite down on sushi or chocolate?

Hm, fair enough; it's just not that easy to explain without giving a large chunk of the story away. But I've edited the post to add this:

I can tell you that it contains (among other things): Internet dating, psychic powers, hidden worlds, zeppelins, hyenadaons, and the Iraq war.

Does that help?

Pre-ordered.

Rabid Transit doesn't seem to give the option for selecting a shipping address if you have more than one associated with your Paypal account. They just grab the default, which in my case is the more inconvenient of the two possibilities I have. (Of course, I wasn't paying attention, either, so I didn't notice until I'd already hit "submit.")

If you were to email them (electrumeditors AT gmail DOT com), I'm sure they'd be happy to ship to your other address.

And thank you so much for ordering!!

Hey, I hadn't even heard about the series. That's great! Both that you've written the first one and that there will be others by others!

That is very cool. I keep thinking about doing a novella series myself...and then I talk myself out of it. But one of these days I'm going to convince myself.

If y'all would like to put a stack on the WP table at Wiscon I would be happy to sell them.

You oughta! Although you do publish novellas in Polyphony, right? Or are they maybe just really long short stories?

And thanks for the offer; I'll let the Rabid Transit folks know. I think they usually sell their stuff at the Small Beer table, but if you'd be willing to help us double our coverage that would be great!

I do often have novellas (or close to) in Polyphony. And I did Forrest's Swans Over the Moon. And I'm doing the Waldrop novellas this summer The Moone World...

I guess what I haven't done is to make it open subs (fearing the loss of personal bandwidth) or settled on a regular payment or format such that it becomes a regular series.

When you said "lined up on the shelf" that's what I've been picturing. In fact, a long time ago I toyed with the idea of doing the Novella of the Month Club, but like many of my ideas it looked like a sure way to raise the amount of money I can lose almost geometrically.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the plan is for Electrum, but I'm picturing it sort of like the 33 1/3 books, or the Small Beer Peapod Classics line. Which might not be what they're planning at all, but.

And yeah: it would be easy to sink a lot of money into that, with no guarantee of a decent return. Sigh . . .
