The roots of prurient are the same as "pruritus", dermatologicese for itch. I use the word daily (not pruritis). love m

I've been known to use it whenever possible. Of course, I get payed to create thesaurus software so I may not be a reliable data point! I was first exposed to it in the context of the collocation "prurient elements"; perhaps even "prurient elements of society."
