It's amazing how many colours are actually in this picture of grey stone walls. I know! The green was almost shockingly gorgeous. I do wonder how they decide how and what to clean/conserve. I think it looks amazing as is, and the whole site is completely open to visitors (well, I mean, it is fenced off and you have to pay to go in, but once inside it's not like there are any "don't touch"/"don't climb" signs), but I imagine it must be quite a balancing act to hold the proper level of ruination.
I really like the dilapidated look of the ceiling. It is the perfect mix of "STONE/STRONG/STURDY" and "oh god is this going to fall on my head," isn't it? ;)

Thanks for the info -- that looks fascinating! Definitely going to try to include this in my next trip to England, whenever that is.
