Lost 6.16, aka the LAST EVER NON-FINALE EPISODE OH SWEET LORD THE WORLD WILL SOON BE OVER

May 18, 2010 23:25

The only thing I have to say about tonight's Lost is the same thing I have to say every time a certain character shows up in the sideways... ( spoilers, obviously. )

lost, please excuse nonsensical flailing

IT WAS ALL GOING SO WELL, DAMMIT BEN! I was all gleeful and nostalgic and happy and now he's fucked it up again by possibly rendering his whole fucking character arc completly meaningless. (Except, ok, not really, I *can* see why he would still go psycho again but HELLS BELLS ( ... )

I'm weirdly calm about where Ben went this week because surely -- SURELY -- there is no way they're going to end his character saying, "Nah, just kidding, he really was an irredeemably hateful little troll the entire time. AND HOW!" SURELY THEY CANNOT DO THIS THING. So I have to imagine that the Ben/Smokey partnership is headed for some doublecross (triplecross?) territory, and in the meantime Ben had a convenient opportunity to kill Widmore along the way (which I suppose should bother me, but... I'll be honest. IT DIDN'T). I am more worried now, though, in the sense that... okay, like I said, I'm still fairly convinced that some sort of redemptive moment lies in wait for Ben, but now I'm also fairly convinced that it will involve his death, and even though I have always had the vague notion that that's the only way his storyline could end NOW THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE TO FACE THE PROSPECT OF WATCHING. BEN. DIE. I BASICALLY JUST WANT TO BURY MYSELF IN MY SOFA AND DIE THERE. But I see Ben pulling a Snape, for sure ( ... )

It's possible I just got the wrong idea in my head about Ben. (Again.) I thought his arc was going to be him thinking it might be a good idea to try and get through things without murdering anyone else because all the revenge and power struggling hadn't done any good. Even if he was flat out bad he'd still want to get rid of Flocke, so the fact he's probably doing that is less powerful to me than it would have been if he really had decided to try something other than revenge and hate. Also, he said that Widmore shouldn't get to save Penny, which suggests that Ben still wants Penny dead as well. Which makes a nonsense of the idea that he's regretted his actions really. Of course if he succeeds in killing Flocke Penny won't be hurt anyway, but but but, I don't know.
