Hmm, the jury is out on this one. Me hating on Don Draper is nothing new, and I have in fact done so pretty much since episode one, so I wouldn't really say that's a deterrent to the show. If anything, I almost prefer it now that he's such an out-and-out bastard so I don't have to skim over as many episode reviews trying to convince me how furtively wonderful he is, simply trapped by his manpain, blah blah blah, shoot me now. Of course, then the downside is that I spend much of the show consumed by frustration and loathing (and not just directed at Don, but at almost all of the characters in turn). Still, though, it's gorgeously produced and brilliantly written. It almost might be harder to get into the show on its own merits now simply because there is so much hype around it; I do sometimes find myself thinking that it's getting somewhat overrated -- up until a new episode airs Sunday night, though, and then I remember, right, this is in fact an astoundingly well-made piece of television.
