Okay, okay, I was sure I heard LittleBen say "I really hate it here," rather than "I really hated him." But like, all the internet is flippin' out over "I hated him" so I d'know.
But Ben's totally alive, and how fucking BIZARRE will it be to rewatch this show when it's all over with the knowledge that BEN KNEW THESE PEOPLE? And ugh, totally sympathizing with the fictional character stress. I was just a mess after all this.

Ooh, no, you're probably right, that makes a lot more sense. Ahhhh life without TiVo is so tragic, because I neeeed to obsessively go back over everything that happens.

UGH SERIOUSLY. I was kind of already wondering that about Juliet... When Harper says, "You look just like her," is Juliet her own "her"? OMG! But now it's like... whoa. Wait. He knew Sayid! Maybe that's where he learned his badassery from! Except... ahhh, now he's shot! Well, maybe being MASSACRED AS A CHILD helped contribute to why he's such a screwed up adult! And then everything goes in circles and whaaaat I just need it to be next week now.
Also, more time loopy weirdness -- how creepy was Sayid's interrogation? When he tells them about the incident? YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE?? Well, okay, I guess it's just more creepy that Sawyer and co. have

My first thought, and the one I'm still clinging to, is that the island heals him. I wtf'd all the same, though... When Sayid said he knew his purpose in returning, I was wondering if maybe he'd stay to help little Ben, since perhaps he could relate to the father issues... But afterward, remembering what Ben said while trying to convince him to kill another man? It sort of fits with what Sayid was saying before he shot him, right? / word-vomit

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought as well, which would be -- I don't know, totally nutty, but Lost has always had this love affair with the whole "strange bedfellows" theme so it would have been an interesting partnership to see. And then. BAM. WHAT. Of course it makes it even more... whaaaat... that, despite everything adult!Ben put him through, Sayid could never actually bring himself to kill him. (This aspect of the show drives my mom NUTS, because she hates Ben and is always like, "Oh my GOD why do they still keep him alive??" and of course, I mean, she is kind of right that nobody on the show really owes anything to Ben, and everybody has been screwed over by him on a regular basis -- but at the same time, it's kind of like Ben's magical power. No matter how much of a bastard he is, nobody can quite do him in because, I don't know, it's like you still have to keep the

Of course, Ben also manipulated the parts of Sayid that Sayid is most ashamed of, so that all feeds into it as well.
I mean, she is kind of right that nobody on the show really owes anything to Ben, and everybody has been screwed over by him on a regular basis
I can totally always see it from the other character's perspective and that's what makes it so ANNOYING because I feel like shouting 'no, you don't understand!' all the damn time. And then feel weird, because after all he is in fact an utter fucking bastard to them. But he's Ben!
My mum gets annoyed by the fact that Ben continually manipulates people who could quite easily beat him up. (Hence the quote immortalised in my Facebook profile which was about a Locke and Ben scene.) She only sees bits and pieces while I'm watching so she hasn't really got the point of the character. :-P
Ben cannot possibly be dead unless a) they go down the paradox route which, arg, just please god no, or b) they junk the laws of physics. But Sayid's probably a damn good shot, even in distress. (i.e. he's not going to shoot Ben in his non existent kidney. Plus Ben hasn't got a non existent kidney.) so...I dunno, guv.
I'm pretty sure Ben said 'I really hate it here.'
If BSG had a happy ending and Lost ended with ROCKS FALL EVERYBODY DIES wouldn't that just be hilarious. Except, yeah, not so much. GAHHH.
Argh, seriously, it's like objectively I know that Ben cannot be dead because... that just does not make any sense. But then what's the point of "killing" him when we know he can't actually die? So clearly there must be something nefarious going on in the writers' room! And clearly they want to destroy my brain. Sigh. Nothing new there!
Yeah, I think you're right, I just misheard in my distress (so at least that's one less PARADOX UH WHAT thing to worry about).
I've always had a lot of confidence that Lost would end with, well, at least a satisfying ending if not maybe an explicitly happy ending for everybody, but sometimes it does get a little hard to keep faith in that. I mean... I don't know, there are always so many things going on in the show that obviously there's going to be a wait for the payoff on a lot of them, but then there's just coming to terms with the fact that certain payoffs are never going to happen. Like all the background 815 survivors? TOTALLY. DEAD. Considering the fact that we never saw half of them I don't

Well, I think the most obvious point of doing it is, if *someone* didn't, it would be an terrible plot hole. I mean, it surely would be the first thing you would discuss once you found out he was on the island. And maybe I'm just a horrible person, but I would suspect the chances of someone actually trying to kill him would be pretty high
