Chapter 19

(Third Person POV)

Hyeonmin screamed in fright when a hand suddenly slammed against her front door, effectively stopping her from closing it up. Said hand then proceeded to cover her mouth, and caused her screams to turn muffled. The person whom performed all the actions pushed her into the apartment and closed the door behind them, and Hyeonmin could feel that her heart was beating erratically against her ribcage. Not to mention that she could also feel the blood pounding in her ears from the extreme fear.

When she successfully willed herself to open her eyes in order to take a good look at her assaulter, she gasped astonishedly. It was none other than her neighbor, Sung Sikyu, who was standing in front of her, looking at her with an annoyed expression. Hyeonmin glared at him and furiously pried his hand off, before crossing her hands in front of her chest, silently demanding for an explanation for his actions.

However, it seems that he didn't pick up on her hints, because he started to ramble in a completely different direction from what she had expected. "Geez, did you really have to scream that loud? The neighbours on the other side of the building are going to think that you're getting mauled in here."

"That's what I'm hoping for so that the police could haul your ass to the station and keep you there for a day or two," she snapped, which in turn earned a dark look from Kyuhyun.

"Irritated much? Besides, you barged into my house the other time as well. Have you forgotten about the incident?" He scowled at her.

"Fine, we're even then. Now could you please tell me what do you want with me so that I can kick you out of my house as soon as possible?"

"Why are you avoiding me?" Kyuhyun stated simply. His words caught her off-guard, because she suddenly had a confused expression on her face.

"I wasn't avoiding you," she shot back, hoping that he didn't notice her fidgeting with the hem of the shirt. In truth, Hyeonmin was actually trying to prevent all sorts of communication with him unless absolutely necessary, even in their workplace. Mainly because of the incident several weeks ago, where a certain Sung Sikyu suddenly decided to kiss her. On the lips.

The implications? Her heart would race at the sight or mere thought of him. A blush would automatically spread on her cheeks whenever he was within a three-foot distance away from her. She could feel a jolt of electricity being sent down her receptors to her brain whenever his fingers brushed against her skin when he receives documents from her.

Worst of all, she had a weird craving to kiss the annoying person once again, just so that she could see whether it'll have the exact same brain-killing effect on her.

And these feelings unnerved her. Hyeonmin wasn't even sure why she had these weird thoughts invading her mind, nor was she interested in finding out. She was afraid that she couldn't handle the truth when it's out.

Again, Hyeonmin could feel Kyuhyun's intense gaze boring into her, as if he could see through all her thoughts. She tried her best not to crack under the pressure, and gave him the best glare she could manage, attempting to show him just how defiant she was in not admitting that she was indeed avoiding him, although the opposite was true.

After having a silent staring war for five whole minutes, Kyuhyun finally rolled his eyes and heaved a sigh. "Suit yourself then," he scoffed, before adding "I don't even know why I'm doing this" under his breath. Hyeonmin's glare, which followed him all the way to the door, did not falter until the moment he left her house and slammed her door a little harder than was necessary. It wasn't until the moment that she started gasping for breath that she realized she hadn't been breathing properly the entire time he was standing in front of her.

Suddenly feeling extremely exhausted from the short encounter she had with her neighbor, Hyeonmin allowed herself to collapse into the armchair. She rubbed her temples in a soft motion, trying to at least make herself feel a little more awake. However, the more she dwelled about the incident, the more she felt guilty about it. From the looks of it, Sikyu was trying to ask her sincerely… if only she wasn't still trying hard to avoid him and until she snapped at him. Hyeonmin couldn't really help herself, because something about him just made her automatically defensive.

Hyeonmin heaved herself off the armchair with a sigh, and groaned when her muscles were starting to hurt from the fatigue sustained at the workplace. Nonetheless, she made up her mind to drag herself to the apartment next door - there was a need to clarify the entire matter sooner or later. She'd rather choose sooner, because she had learned the hard way that not talking to him was a torture.

"What do you want?"

That was the first thing that Kyuhyun did the moment he opened the door - to growl at Hyeonmin with full animosity. She flinched at the acidic tone, but kept reminding herself that she was the one who caused this mess.

"I want to talk…" she replied, but still avoiding his eyes.

To her surprise, Kyuhyun scoffed at her. "Great. You refused to say anything and attempted to shove me out of your house ten minutes ago. Now you just waltzed over to my place just because you suddenly decided that 'you want to talk'? Make up your damned mind, Yong Hyeonmin," Kyuhyun remarked, voice thick with sarcasm. She looked up at him, and realized that he wasn't even looking at her.

"Look, I'm sorry, okay?" Hyeonmin raised her voice, and continued rambling on without giving him a chance to interrupt. "Do you have any idea how confused you're causing me to become? I can't think straight when you're near me, and I can't think straight either when we're not talking! I don't even know what you're thinking when you kissed me that day!"

When Hyeonmin was done with her pathetic attempt to explain herself, she realized that she was already in tears. All the frustration that has been locked up in her heart just been freed, and she suddenly felt so much better. "If you refuse to listen to me, fine. I'll- I'll just leave," she added silently, and turned around to return to her apartment. That was when Kyuhyun suddenly grabbed her by her arm, effectively stopping her in her tracks.

"You were avoiding me because of that 'kiss'? Geez, I was just trying to shut you up because you wouldn't stop asking questions. Don't look into the action too much," Kyuhyun rolled his eyes disbelievingly, though he could feel his heart twitching in response to his words.

Was that what I really thought, or is there another reason behind my actions? He asked himself, but decided to ignore it. He'll just have to deal with the unfamiliar emotions some other time.

When he looked down at Hyeonmin, Kyuhyun realized that horror was written all over her face - wide eyes, mouth agape. She seemed to have wanted to say something, but was only able to open her mouth just to close it the next second. Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes at her in confusion.

"Um, hello?"

"So… does that mean that there wasn't any other meaning behind the kiss?" Hyeonmin asked slowly, as if someone else was talking through her mouth.

"Nope," he replied simply. She didn't have to know that he kind of enjoyed it; otherwise she wouldn't allow him to live it down.

"You- you…" Hyeonmin started, and she looked as if she was filled with rage at his answer. But in the end, an exhausted sigh escaped from her lips, and her shoulders slumped in defeat. "You're impossible, do you know that?"

Kyuhyun chuckled at her response. "As a matter of fact, I do," he said, and swiftly closed the door in her face before she had the chance to barge into his house and beat the crap out of him. Hyeonmin glared daggers at his door, annoyed at the fact that he was laughing his head off on the other side.

Bastard.
