Chapter 14

He blinked at her, as if she had spoken in a foreign language that he did not understand at all. Her eyebrows furrowed together and her mouth twisted in annoyance when she noticed his expression. Her hands also automatically flew to her waist, assuming a complete reprimanding look.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked, evidently flustered at the person sitting next to her.

"Because I can't really comprehend your request?" he replied snidely.

"I'm pretty sure that I'm speaking in Korean, unless you've suddenly decided that you don't understand Korean. Shall I try Mandarin on you instead?" she rolled her eyes.

"I would like to see you try, Hyeonmin-sshi." he smirked.

She hesitated for a short moment, before sighing in defeat. "… okay, so I have absolutely no knowledge of the language…" she admitted, shoulders slumping in despair.

"Thought so."

"And do you know how to speak Mandarin?" she challenged, evidently miffed by the way he was acting all high and mighty.

"Of course."

"Don't embarrass yourself, Sung Sikyu."

"Would you two just stop bickering like a couple and get on with the singing instead? In case you can't remember, the renting of the noraebang goes by the hour. We're wasting our money here if all you're going to do is to talk," another annoyed voice cut in, and both their heads snapped in the direction of their colleague, who had her arms crossed in front of her chest, seemingly impatient.

"Karen, you need to help me out with this… Get him to sing," Hyeonmin pleaded her secretary, whom sighed in response.

"Sikyu-sshi, please just comply with her request for this one time…" Karen said, rubbing her temples in frustration.

"But I was forced here in the first place," he protested.

"You know this girl will annoy you until you give in," Karen chuckled, earning a slap to the back from Hyeonmin. "Hey! That hurt!" she yelled, only to be met with the sight of Hyeonmin sticking her tongue out at her.

Kyuhyun was rather irritated at the fact that the two girls appeared at his doorstep at eleven in the morning, ringing his doorbell as if their lives depended on it while he was still fast asleep. Turns out that they had wanted to drag him to the noraebang with them, since there was one outlet that was offering a special price for any group with at least three people and above.

And here he was with the two very excited colleagues of his, who were currently trying to stuff the microphone in his face. When he realized that there was no way he was going to win the battle with them both ganging up against him, he sighed and reluctantly took the microphone in his hand. "Fine, just once. And… I'll need you girls to choose the song for me… I have no idea what's nice nowadays," he said, blushing slightly at his appalling lack of experience with things like these.

"With pleasure," Hyeonmin announced with a scheming glint in her eyes, and winked deviously at Karen. Suddenly, Kyuhyun wasn't so sure whether he wanted her to pick the song for him anymore.

To his horror, Hyeonmin picked one of the songs that he sang in his previous life - the original soundtrack for the drama Pasta - though it wasn't as if he hadn't expected it, especially with her being such a crazy fan for Super Junior, and specifically for him. As the guitar intro started playing in the background, Kyuhyun debated with himself whether he should sing like he used to, or whether he should act as though he was tone-deaf. For one, it definitely will be chaotic if he sang exactly like Super Junior's Kyuhyun, which he is, only in a different life. Or a newly given life that had a one-year expiry tag.

… Damn it, this is too confusing.

But by the time the first lines of the song rolled in, he made up his mind to sing naturally. Because if he were to act as if he was tone-deaf, it'll definitely attract unwanted teasing from Hyeonmin. Knowing her, she'll never let him live it down, considering the fact that he was always the one who was supposed to do all the teasing. And that has to be avoided at all costs. Once he took in a deep breath, he closed his eyes and started belting out the song that brings back a lot of memories.

"… Love you... oh my baby my love…" Kyuhyun slowly opened his eyes upon finishing his last note, only to find the girls staring at him wide-eyed and mouth agape.

"Um, girls, I think it's time for you to close your mouths up now… your drool is dribbling from the corners of your mouth," he pointed out, and burst out laughing when they snapped out of their trance-like state and started wiping frantically at their mouths in an attempt to dry off the non-existent moisture. They shot him a dirty look when they realized that he had tricked them.

"Don't look at me like that. Your faults for being shocked to that extent," he shrugged.

"I- I never knew you could sing so well," Hyeonmin stuttered disbelievingly.

He narrowed his eyes smugly. "I never said I couldn't sing, either."

"… you have a point."

"I always do," he smiled triumphantly.

At this juncture, Karen cleared her throat in an attempt to prevent yet another imminent bickering fight between Hyeonmin and Kyuhyun. To her relief, she managed to catch their attention. "But honestly, I really didn't expect you to sound so much like the original singer Kyuhyun, Sikyu-sshi! On second thought, you really do look like him too…" she quickly said, and then narrowed her eyes in suspicion at Kyuhyun.

Beads of cold sweat broke out on his forehead, causing him to gulp. They noticed; and that means bad news for him.

"Don't be silly, Karen. Kyuhyun's already d- I mean, he's no longer in this world, remember?" Hyeonmin said. Kyuhyun was suddenly thankful that she jumped to his rescue even without being asked to, though he did not fail to observe that she was still reluctant in saying the word 'dead', as if it was a taboo to do so.

"Yeah, Karen. I'm just another person who looks - and apparent sings - like him, that's all. Oh hey, maybe we're long lost twins!" Kyuhyun chirruped, earning laughs from the girls and promptly alleviating the tension that had unknowingly enveloped the room.

Hyeonmin pushed him lightly at the side of his head. "You wish. He's much hotter and a far better singer than you are," she gushed.

"Oh, so does that mean you think I'm hot?" he smirked at her sentence, causing her to blush.

"A-aniyo! Aish, you're so conceited sometimes, do you know that?" Hyeonmin huffed, and jumped when the music suddenly blasted from the speakers. Apparently Karen wasn't very much interested in listening to them squabble away, and nor was she intent in wasting her money coming to the noraebang but not doing any singing at all.

Kyuhyun merely shook his head in amusement, before he turned to Hyeonmin once again. "So, would you mind telling me how this Kyuhyun person died?"

Hyeonmin quirked an eyebrow at him, but gave him a reply anyway. However, all she managed to say was "He-" before the door of their room flung open, revealing a middle-aged man behind it. It looked like as if he had a huge workout prior to appearing at their room, because he was currently panting hard. Karen hit the 'pause' button for the music at the sudden intrusion, and the three of them stared at the man oddly.

"Um, may we help you?" Hyeonmin asked.

"Who… who was the one who sang Super Junior Kyuhyun's Listen… to You just a while ago?" he managed to say in between breaths. Upon hearing his question, Hyeonmin and Karen automatically pointed in Kyuhyun's direction. On the other hand, Kyuhyun glanced around wide-eyed, apparently confused by the situation.

"Uh, is there something wrong?" Kyuhyun finally managed to blurt out after several seconds, and squirmed uncomfortably in his seat when the man scrutinized his face closely.

"Hmm… definitely perfect," the unidentified man mumbled to himself, and Kyuhyun furrowed his eyebrows together, still unable to comprehend what on earth was going on.

"You, sir, please come with me," the man suddenly announced. Actually, he didn't even give Kyuhyun an option whether he should follow the man or not; the man simply just dragged him out of the door without warning. And Hyeonmin and Karen were left in the room, blinking absentmindedly at the retreating backs of the two men.

"Uh… what the hell just happened?" Hyeonmin found herself asking. Karen merely shrugged, the same blank look occupying her face.
