Chapter 35
"Sorry we're late!" Jungsoo and Sungmin exclaimed at the same time when they pushed through the doors of the dance studio, earning the enthusiastic greeting from the other Super Junior members who were lounging around the room. Excited giggles followed behind the pair, as Jungsoo's pair of twins came running into the room as well, attacking all the other boys with a huge hug.
"Seriously, what were the both of you doing?" Donghae said as he threw a still-giggling Sunhee into the air, and catching her safely in his arms. The little girl laughed again when he flashed her a wide smile, then gave him a peck on the cheeks while declaring to the whole room that she loved Donghae the most, much to the protests from the other boys.
"Sorry for making him late for your little gathering, boys. He had to pick me and the kids up from home after his schedules earlier. But you know how he refuses to let me drive the kids around," Angie walked in and took Jungsoo's hand in hers, pouting at her husband for being too overprotective of her. However, it wasn't as if she really disapproved of his actions; in fact, she actually thought that he was being too sweet.
"But baby, you're pregnant. I don't want you to tire yourself out," the Super Junior leader defended himself, pulling her into his embrace and planted a soft kiss on her lips - his very own way of making her agree with him. And it worked all of the time, no less. But whether their actions received approval from the other members who were watching their every action, that remained as a questionable matter. It was clear that they still weren't used to their leader and his wife's public display of affection even after so many years, because random gagging sounds followed, courtesy of the Super Junior boys.
"Aww geez, Teukkie hyung, Angie noona! Could you save the act for somewhere private? We're watching, you know!" Youngwoon protested, showing a disapproving scowl at the both of the pair.
"And we have kids here, even! I certainly hope you don't smother each other at home while Sunhee and Sungjoo are watching," Hyukjae shuddered playfully at the thought, showing the thumbs up to Ryeowook and Kibum who moved to cover the twins' eyes when their parents started with their shenanigans. Jungsoo childishly stuck out a tongue in their direction, earning a playful smack on the shoulder from Angie.
Sungmin, who had been uncharacteristically quiet for the entire time during Jungsoo and the other members' bickering, looked around questioningly for the person he had expected to see. "Where's Kyuhyun?" he asked, blinking innocently when the other boys shot him odd looks at his question. Call him paranoid, but Sungmin thought that they looked as if they think he was out of his mind.
"What are you talking about, Sungmin hyung?" Siwon queried, quirking an eyebrow at the older male. Said person exchanged confused looks with Jungsoo, both feeling skeptical whether their friends were playing a prank on them along with Kyuhyun. They had a reputation of doing so, and considering the fact that they have all taken acting classes before, it was hard to discern whether they were genuinely confused about Sungmin's question unless they probed further.
This time, it was Jungsoo's turn to take charge. "Seriously guys, where's Kyuhyun? Wasn't he supposed to meet us here? Did he go to the washroom or something?" he questioned with complete seriousness, trying to tell them subtly that he wasn't in the mood for games.
"And Hankyung hyung sent me a message telling me that Kyuhyun was already here," Sungmin supplemented, pulling his phone out in order to show them the evidence. However, he looked at the screen oddly when said message was nowhere to be found - and he was someone who doesn't delete the messages in his inbox until the end of the week. Hankyung, on the other hand, scrunched his eyebrows in confusion because he completely did not have any recollection about sending a message to Sungmin, or anyone else for that matter.
"T-Teukkie hyung, are you okay…?" Hyukjae asked cautiously, casting a glance in Angie's direction to silently enquire if there was anything wrong with her spouse. She merely shrugged in response, not knowing what was going on.
Nonetheless, Angie took the hint from Jungsoo to bring their children somewhere else while he settled things with his members when he tugged on her arm gently, and the twins ran excitedly towards the door when their mother proclaimed that she was going to buy them ice cream. Seeing that the young ones weren't in the room anymore, the members seemed to have relaxed their previously tensed stances slightly, though Jungsoo and Sungmin had the feeling that there were going to be a lot of confused questions being thrown around the room.
True enough, Heechul, who had remained silent for the most part, spoke up first. "Teuk, I know that you and Sungmin miss Kyuhyun the most among all of us, but this isn't funny. We've talked about this - and I thought that you've both came to terms with the fact that he's no longer around years ago," he allowed the words to roll off his tongue accurately, ignoring the stabbing pain that accompanied them and tried to remain calm on the surface. Ten other boys looked away to hide their pained expressions at the exchange between the two eldest males.
"Chul, are you pulling my leg? Kyuhyun's back - we've just talked to him a week ago and confirmed his identity at the restaurant. Stop fooling around; this isn't funny," Jungsoo retorted, getting more and more frustrated by the moment. They were just discussing about how glad they were to have Kyuhyun back with them, even for a little while, and had agreed to just focus on the present - so what's making them deny everything now?
"Teukkie hyung, what are you talking about? No one here has seen Kyuhyun since the burial. Are you sure you didn't meet him in your sleep?" Jongwoon asked, flashing a concerned look at his leader.
"It can't be; I've seen Kyuhyun with my very own eyes as well. And I can confirm that you guys were all there, including Zhou Mi and Henry," Sungmin intercepted, receiving a grateful look from his leader. He walked over to the latter's side, giving Jungsoo a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder. After all, they couldn't be dreaming about the exact same thing at the same time… could they?
The room was promptly enveloped in a blanket of tense silence, with Jungsoo and Sungmin on one side, and the rest of the members on the other. Neither of them looked as if they were about to give up on their stand, but in the end, an exhausted sigh escaped the leader's lips. "You're right; I'm probably just imagining things. I'm sorry for bringing this up," he said, smiling weakly at his friends.
When Sungmin was about to voice his protest against Jungsoo's declaration, the leader shot him a look that said 'not now', and he got the point immediately. The pair excused themselves from the studio for a short moment, but on the way out, a familiar object lying on the floor caught the pink lover's attention, of which he pocketed at once.

"Teukkie hyung, I really don't get it… why would the others claim that they've never seen Kyuhyun ever since that day?" Sungmin asked as he stirred the drink in front of him, not quite bothered to mask his frustration over the matter. Just like Jungsoo, he didn't - couldn't - understand why they were acting this way. He couldn't help but wonder whether something had happened before he and Jungsoo had arrived at the studio, but he couldn't put the pieces together either.
Across the table of the SME cafeteria, Jungsoo leaned forward and rested his forehead against his knuckles, looking genuinely exhausted for the first time in a very long while. Sungmin watched quietly as the former sighed and massaged his temples in a circular motion, evidence that the leader was trying to think. With another long sigh, Jungsoo said: "I really don't know. Nothing makes sense anymore. I know that we were supposed to meet Kyuhyun today, but it seems to me that the others can't even recall that Kyuhyun is back under some weird circumstances."
"Even Hankyung hyung denied that he had sent me a message half an hour ago, telling me that Kyuhyun had arrived at the studio… and the odd thing is that the message went missing from my inbox as well," Sungmin frowned, fishing his phone out of his pocket to run through the inbox again. He still couldn't fathom how the message disappeared just like that, especially when he did not erase it after reading it. No one laid a hand on his phone either, so the possibility of another person having accidentally deleting the message was automatically thrown out of the window.
"Are you a hundred percent sure that you didn't delete the message by accident?" Jungsoo asked.
"Dead sure," the younger male reaffirmed. "And I'm pretty convinced that Kyuhyun did appear at the dance studio before we had arrived."
Jungsoo immediately perked up at Sungmin's second statement. "Would you please enlighten me about that?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at the younger male. He looked on as the latter dug into his pocket, and pulled out a black object before placing it on the table.
"This, is Kyuhyun's phone." Sungmin said, pushing it towards Jungsoo. "I can recognise it because I saw him using it the other day. It's the exact same phone charm," he explained further when the confusion became more apparent on Jungsoo's expressions, pointed at the accessory tied to it. The leader picked up the device and ran through the phonebook and messages inbox even though he wasn't supposed to, but this wasn't the time for them to respect Kyuhyun's privacy. They needed answers, and this was the only way to achieve it.
"It really is Kyuhyun's phone," Jungsoo breathed, unsure whether he actually believe what he was saying. After all that had happened, he didn't even know whether he was dreaming, or was he really living in reality.
"But judging by the other members' expressions and intonations…" Sungmin started.
"… They're not lying. They really can't remember that Kyuhyun came back," Jungsoo concluded.
