Halloweens Past / Surprise Trip to Boise / Smokin' Geo!

Alrighty, so Halloween is upon us and over the last few years, it's become a tradition to do nothing in observance of the holiday. iturtle and I used to hand out candy to Trick-or-Treaters but we don't have the heart for it anymore. Story goes that, a few years back, we handed out candy while trying to spook people who came to the door. We'd turn off all the lights and wait for the kids to get to the door and question amongst themselves if there was really anyone home and BOOM we'd jump out, spook 'em kiddies and huck candy their way.

Life was good and we ruled the neighborhood with a skeleton's fist. Problem was, we got too good at it, and even on accident we'd spook the real little kids something awful. The parents didn't seem to mind but we'd apologize anyway and typically slip the super-young fairy princess or three-year-old Superman a little extra candy (Hush-hush sugar). Although, along with the weak also come the meanies- We'd have problems with some of the older Trick-or-Treater kids trying to come around twice for more candy, hoping we wouldn't notice. So I think it's a combination of the super young kids and the super old kids as reasons I don't have the heart to hand out candy anymore. You've got the people who are taking advantage of us as well as the toddlers who are too young to be out on the streets anyway. Just my opinion.

So then what are my plans for this year's holiday, you might ask? Well, I'm off to Boise, Idaho! Yes, that's right kids, I'm outta here. In fact, I'm leaving in about fourteen hours from now. Jacalyn, my ex from several years ago and still great friend after the breakup, got ahold of me Monday and invited me to be her "date" to a costume party on Halloween night. She was really adamant that I come out -- willing to pay for my trip -- because she wanted to bring someone and the two men in her Boise-life have either moved on or aren't moving enough. One guy already has a new girlfriend and the other can't finish leaving the one he's with to be with Jaci. So it looks like I have to step up and roll on out there.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Driving 400 miles just so one of your past-life ex-griflriends can have someone to go to a party with? I know that doesn't sound very appropriate, but besides the fact that we're still great friends, there are things in this for me too. I'll get out of Portland for a few days (And away from drama here), Jaci and I are both signed up for NaNoWriMo so we'll be writing buddies for a few days and I'll possibly make a few bucks working Boise's November election. If you'll recall, back in May, I worked Boise's primary election and made some nice coin. November's big election is here, so to work that one as well and get some money would be cosmically fantastic. It would help pay for the trip and allow me to hang out with Jaci for a short time. It's really going to be fun having her write for NaNoWriMo right along side me on her own book. I wonder how it'll turn out. I'm excited.

This'll be a week-long road trip. I leave tomorrow, Thursday, and I'll probably end up getting back Thursday next week. Spending election day in another state will be a trip. I may in fact not even hear who the president-elect is until we get back from working the ballot counting machines into the early hours of the morning. Outside of working the election and going to the costume party, I'm looking forward to spending time with Jaci. Bottom line, her and I always have fun together. I really am considering this weekend to be an escape before the holidays and a chance to hang out with a fun friend I don't normally get to see. Plus, I love simple little road trips like this. A quick 400 to Boise and a quick 400 back. It'll be relaxing and spiritual. Or, at least, that's what I get out of driving long distances.

Speaking of driving, I sure hope my car is ready to roll. We put new antifreeze in the radiator this afternoon and I think we overfilled it (If such a thing is possible). I did some test-driving running a quick errand a few hours ago, and some white steam began escaping out the sides of the hood. Nothing serious, but man it sure freaks me out to see anything out of the ordinary with that poor vehicle...
