Man, That Was An Odd Dream...

You ever have one of those dreams that keeps you locked in and you end up sleeping in for hours? I get em about once or twice a year. They're vivid enough to really hold on and crazy enough for me to decide to write a journal entry about them.

The first thing I can remember is that it started out with me house-sitting for Jaci's parents in Boise. I don't know why I agreed to it, but there I was. The house was rather empty and bland and, for some odd reason, it was attached to a strip mall. Anyway, things were calm enough but I discovered a giant metal door in their garage that seemed to alien compared to the rest of the "house." It was like a pressurized door from the inside of a submarine and even showed signs of wear, decay and rust. I opened it and it led to a corridor of dark, damp tunnels. I was bored as hell, so I decided to go on in. Of course, like a bad movie cliché, the giant door closed and locked behind me. I was stuck until someone came home which was days away.

I investigated the dank tunnel system which led to an ever-increasingly bizarre underground world. There would be dead-ends that led to observation rooms with glass windows looking out to a vast underwater aquarium. I met some strange children who came and went like they were playing in a school's jungle-gym. There were even some horrible monster moments that had me running deeper into the tunnels. Days passed and I grew more and more lost. It was just an unending maze. Finally, I reached what I guessed was the end or the bottom-most point of the system which was basically a dead-end of no particular importance. Fearing another attack from the creatures, I barricaded myself there and submitted to a fate deep within.

At that moment, Jaci and her family had arrived home and were able to guide me to a quick escape. Once out, I was a haggard mess! They didn't want to hear of my adventure and acted as if they'd never noticed the metal portal in their garage. In fact, they had the balls to charge me for the house's utilities in the days i spent underground. I left in a huff tearing up their bills and went to my car to drive home. I got into the car and my whole steering wheel was GONE! I stepped out and there was even a boot on the car too!! I noticed all this crap that had appeared in my car too and it turns out that I was parked illegally in the mall's parking lot so they made sure my car wasn't going anywhere. They left a bunch of crap for me to install in my car including a GPS tracker so the cops would know where I was.

It was about then I woke up because I began to realize how ridiculous it all was. I mean, Jaci's parents don't live together and they don't live attached to a strip mall and they don't have a gigantic underground network of caverns attached to their garage and the cops don't remove steering columns nor do they leave crap for car-owners to install so they can keep an eye on em. It was all too strange and just as I realized it was a dream, I slipped out of REM sleep and the characters began fading. The last thing I remember is thinking how much I hated Idaho cops.

In reality, I have no experience with Idaho cops, so I'm without opinion. But I'm sure anyone would be mad at any police force who would remove your steering wheel and the column just to immobilize your car. It was a bit over the top, but that's how my dreams are sometimes. To analyze it all, I'd say the dream was a combination of spare thoughts about the dwindling hope for the miners from that mine disaster in Utah combined with the occasional worry of something happening to my car. Funny how dreams work...
