The Wait Creates Liars

Welp, I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for hear something from the producers of On The Lot as to whether I'm in the next round of interviews or not. The official website has been dead quiet and even official moderators on the official forums have been kept in the dark. If the show is premiering May 16th, that gives them just over two months ( Read more... )

Yaknow, I hate to be the guy in left field, but wouldnt it be more prudent to put this effort in to developing another movie? I'm not saying gie up on onthelot, but there is little you can do about that now.

I'm also not saying to not do the commentary, It's interesting and fun. An expose on that one freeway scene might be overkill, that effect isn't new and can be googled or wikied.

Well, the point of an exposé on the freeway scene is that I don't want to explain how it was done a million times. People ask me daily how I did it. For them it's easier to just ask me in person rather than researching online if they even know how to find information about an effect as specific as this. In that respect, I can't blame them for asking. If I had the actual filmmaker in front of me, screw looking it up online. Instead of explaining it in person a zillion times, I'll use the power of DVD to explain it once in a featurette and be done with it. Next time someone asks, I'll point to the featurette.

As for making another movie, sounds great. With the weather improving and it feeling more like summer every day, now is the time. But this time, I'd rather get out of the hotseat and be in a supporting crew role on someone else's production. You want to write and direct the next movie? It's about time you stepped into the fire and put your own ideas on the line. :)

So instead of answer a question on the forum or comments page you add something to a dvd no one will be able to get. Unless you plan on compressing it as a tutorial to put online.

As far as another movie is concerned, you basically mean "I don't want to any of the creative grunt work."

The people asking me how it's done have been mainly family and close friends. It's no problem for me to fire off dozens upon dozens of DVDs to anyone who asks just like I did for the road trip DVD. This featurette could even be content for 64oz. That would allow people online to snag it. So you see, making a quick one- to two-minute featurette is something everyone can see.

And is it really so bad that I feel like taking a short break from "creative grunt work?" I mean... I deserve a break from being the main idea man. I did nearly everything on "Those Abandoned"; why imply that I always have to come up with and run everything? I wanna see what other people around me can do while I enjoy a less-stressful supportive role.

The wait can be crazy. It's like you don't know when you're going to hear from them or what, but you know, at least you're doing something to keep yourself busy. You're making a DVD on your short film and adding really neat extras. Keep your head up. I hope you hear from them soon!

Yea, I'm kinda anxious. Between the time I wrote this entry and now, my folks were on the official On The Lot forums and read a bunch of posts about people freaking out over rumors. People are passing around rumors that the show will have an 30-year-old age limit and will only allow young, hyper-attractive nymphos on the show. It's a Fox show, so I wouldn't be surprised. I'll die happy if I just get to the first tier interview. If I don't make it beyond that or even on the show, that's cool, at least I'll know that they liked my movie enough to seriously consider me talented for long enough to want to see me in person. If I get this one interview, it will be a validation.

There's always going to be rumors, especially on the Internet. See what the producers of the show say. I think it's worse because they're not saying anything, so people are formulating their own ideas. Even if you don't make it to the interview, look at it like this: your video is online and you never know who will see it and think "hmm, this guy has a gift, potential to be molded, let's see what he's got." You put your video out there, so that alone is a great thing. Be encouraged. :)

It's a crappy situation. Everyone doesn't know who or what to believe. But yea, I shouldn't look at it like loosing a competition (If it indeed is over) but that I did accomplish something.
