Mobile Once More

I should have posted this last night when it was relevant to the day's activities, but I've been quite busy since becoming completely mobile again! Yes, my Geo Metro--which we lovingly call Penguin--has been given a new bill of health and is back on the road after being in one spot for exactly 45 days ( Read more... )

I'm glad things have worked out in getting your car fixed. Once you drive, it's such a pain to depend on public transportation and others to take you where you have to go. And look at the bright side: you found out what was wrong without taking it to a mechanic. Can you imagine how much that would've cost you? ;)

Ohh yea, we ran estimates on how much the labor alone would have been, and we've guessed that it'd run around $400 to of have the car worked on in a shop. Yea, they'd have fixed the car in a matter of hours or days at the worst whereas I took five whole weeks to do it myself, but I learned a lot doing it myself. We also replaced a bunch of parts and it's rather satisfying to know I did it myself.

Hahaha it's good to hear from you! Yea, the timing belt dissolved in the hot oil that was leaking out of the engine. It's fairly common for Geos, I've been told. I think it's kinda funny how one tiny problem (A $4 engine seal failing) created a huge problem (Shredding the timing belt) that lead to me being immobile for five weeks. But I learned a whole lot about how engines work and what I'm personally capable of to get myself back on the road. I certainly did learn a lot.
