last week i had $3000 in my bank account. it's all saved money and about half of it was gifts from family for graduation. i decided to buy a new computer. it's an $1800 macintosh powerbook. i've always wanted a computer that i didn't have to carry around like a lead weight and have to run monitors around. this machine is perfect. it's got wireless internet and a 5 hour battery. so i'm finally sitting here indulging in one of my many life-goals: surfing the web, listening to music, writing journal entries and chatting to friends wireless while warm in my bed.
the story behind it is that i need a new computer. my 4 year old mac tower is showing its age and it's time to sell it on ebay. i decided on getting a laptop because i wanted something portable so i don't have to clutter up jaci's house when i plan on moving in to help out with her dad in a couple weeks. on sunday the 13th (about 9 days ago) my friend bryan offered to let me use his developer discount to get me a $2000 laptop for $1600. apple computer wasn't having it (he already used his discount on something else) so i had to get it with simply an educational discount which brought it to $1800. no biggie. the computer is a 15" widescreen with all the bells and whistles. i've spent the last couple days just getting everything off my tower and onto the laptop. it's been slow going (laptops have slower hard drives than normal computers) but it's all done. now my whole life and music collection and movie collection is in a nice, neat 6 pound package.
Now all it needs is a name. i like to name the computers i've owned, it makes it easier to identify on a network and it gives the machine a personality. the tower this laptop replaced was named "Powder." before that, i had a computer named "Thumper." another name i've used has been "Apollo." does anyone have any suggestions? the theme i'm trying to stick with is one-word, simple and powerful nouns or pro-nouns with character. the current front-runner name comes from my girl, jacalyn, who thinks i should name this laptop "Aria," which is a name we've picked for our first daughter if we ever have one. i like the name a lot but i'm not sure i want a machine to have that name when we've already betrothed it to a human being whom has yet to exist. it's kinda creepy.
