Moomin fear

Eek! Someone else remembers the shit-scary stop-motion Moomin series from the 80's... this would be interesting to see on DVD. Was anyone else freaked out by that as a kid? It always seemed so dark and moody and just... *flail* CREEPY. Aaaugh, the pet dragon! *flails

I remember it and it being rather dark and slow tempo, but it never scared me. For me moomins were like in the books, mostly.

Moomins are all over the place here, of course. Mostly it's the cheap Japanese tat made of 'em or Tove Jansson originals, but thank fuck it's not THE SCARY FELT MOOMINS OF CREEPY DARK DOOM.

I never watched the cartoon series, although I hear it was pretty scary, but actually the books are kind of not-for-children too, especially the later ones (Moominpappa's mid-life crisis! In a *lighthouse*, for god's sake!).

I was quite little when I read that book and loved it ever since, even though iot was often hidden from librarie's children's section and it took years from me before I found it again.

I have vague recollections, but all of them have been superceded by tanais reading Moomin stories to me at bedtime some many years ago :-)
