Brilliant progression, in which the silence says more than words would.

Thank you:) Silences suit Sexby better than words, I feel. Really glad you liked it!

It's a joy to see new fic in this fandom, and this is so full of beautiful writing and period detail (He counts his days with her with the same prayerful reverence as he counts the pearls in her hair as he undresses her, as he counts her vertebrae with his fingers when they make love, as he counts the lines on her face when she lies asleep beside him. Killing a tyrant is no murder!) that I had to keep stopping to bounce in glee as I read it.

Eeee, so glad you liked it and the historical references. The 17th century is actually my favourite historical period and yet it's so under-represented in drama, outside France at least. So TDH was such rare candy and just so exquisitely written, directed, shot, colourised and acted that I still can't believe it actually happened. I'd had this fic in the works for a while and had to finally polish it and post it. Poor Sexby.

Absolutely adore your fic in this fandom, too, BTW. Just left a gushy comment on the heartbreakingly beautiful swimming fic on Ao3. <3

Thank you so much! The 17th century is my favourite period, too - I'm actually an Early Modernist by trade - and I've been making everyone I know watch The Devil's Whore for years. It's just so pretty and full of the best sort of melodrama!

I envy you. And yes, the best sort of melodramas are those laced with plenty of blood and tears and lots of pretty. And seeing as John Simm is possibly the greatest actor I've ever seen on my screen, I am still just reeling from the fact that he should star in something set in my favourite period. I know they took liberties with the history in this one, but I feel they did it well, because even my inner history nerd wasn't complaining too much. Knowing there was an actual rumour going around that Cromwell had orchestrated Rainsborough's death and all that. And Simm's comment about Sexby falling in love with both Angelica and Rainsborough for different reasons kind of inspired this fic--I can totally believe he's pretty much a Kinsey 1 who just falls in love with Rainsborough and what he represents, falls in love with this idol of his and his strength and his morals and they are eventually more important to him than a woman's romantic love. It's sad, of course, but entirely believable ( ... )
