Egyptian pyramids found by infra-red satellite images

I just saw the 90 minute BBC docu on this. Someone give Sarah Parcak all the science awards, NOW. Basically, she has discovered 17 new pyramids, over 1000 tombs and 3000 ancient settlements through combining satellite and infrared images. Suck on that, Howard Carter :O

history geekage, holy fucking shit

I reread the article and then saw the caption under her picture saying "SPACE ARCHAEOLOGIST". How utterly *awesome* is that for a title?

It's so awesome, I burst into spontaneous laughter -- and got all choked up...

Dear gods, is it too late to change my major? I need to be a space archaeologist. I'm sure I'll get laid more if I tell people that's my job.

There appears to be some mistake, I seem not to be married to a space archaeologist.

I'm sure she shoots Daleks and asks them beg for mercy in her spare time. Seriously, how awesome is that?

I'm still more of a Benny fan, can my one just tangentially refer to Daleks every so often in a roundabout way without violating trademarks?

It was pretty damn epic :O I found the guy presenter annoying and lispy, though, but nevermind. SPACE ARCHAEOLOGY!

My jaw pretty much dropped at the amount of bling they found in the core sample, knowing how unlikely it is for anyone to ever find anything with random samplings like that. Time Team would be creaming their pants if they got there. ("Ooarrr, thar' be sum foine 'airoglifficks in 'ere, Tony...")

I've only ever seen the bloke on one thing before, A Horizon Guide To The Apocalypse or something and he wasn't very good on that either.

Yeah, the core sample bit was awesome. I can't be the only one who shouted Lord Niiiiiiiiiiiimon at mention of the labyrinth. :)
