I've thought this for years and years and years, but perhaps now that people are taking a new (or old-new) interest in Who, it'll get people responding (hopefully with "fuck yeah ( Read more... )

Yeah, I could see Blessed in that role.
Let's see if we can get the Who team to use him in some future episode.

Now you've made me want to break out my copy of The Five Doctors and spend the afternoon drooling over Five and Ainley. And Five/Ainley. And boo on Four. He was too busy getting TimePoon.

Woot! Nice to have friends who understand the power of timecock/poon!

You know, the idea of Turlough/Susan is REALLY hot. I never considered that. *rewatches The Five Doctors to look for other fun combinations that could be had*

I just rewatched Five Doctor last week and still harbour resentment towards what they did with Rassilon, even pitchshifting his voice down doesn't help, he still looks like Jimmy Edwards out of sixties sitcom Whacko. Byt this time we'd had the comic version of Rassilon who was around a hundred times cooler.

Thanks to the Big Finish plays, I always imagine Rassilon sounding like Don Warrington these days.

Augh. And wooyay for Don Warrington, I've heard clips of him as Rassilon and he's perfect. He's definitely got the heaviness there, what the part needs.

And even as I wrote up the post I thought "Hmm, it should be someone larger than life, and someone utterly mad" and went "Holy shit. TOM BAKER FOR RASSILON, NOW."

I'm afraid I can't comment on early Doctor Who's as I am woefully ignorant.
However I am fully aware of the God that is Brian Blessed.
Did you see him on Loose Lips?
Hysterical stuff!!!

The Blessed is God.

And you totally need to watch OldWho, it really is worth it. Five Doctors is also very slashy with Master/Doctor goodness...

Well now that I'm older I'm hoping I won't be too scared
I was a bit of a wimp and still can't take horror.
I was ok with the Stone Angels but the Gas Masks and Children frieked me out completely.
I'll try those thanks

Oh, make sure you hide behind the sofa once you get to Deadly Assassin... no monsters as such, but just all the insanity of You Know Who leashed upon the Doctor. MUAHHHAHAHA. That seriously creeps me out, I'm about to rewatch it soon and already dread it a bit.

I just saw Brian Blessed in a HBO tv movie version of "As You Like It" set in 19th century Japan. It was very weird...Brian Blessed was not BRIAN BLESSED at all. He was soft spoken emo!brian blessed. Plus he looked like a grey-haired Doctor half the time, and like a black-haired Master in Samurai warrior armour the other half. The whole movie was totally bizarre, frankly.

FEAR.

It was weird to see him in Branagh's Hamlet, as the ghost of Hamlet's father. Basically he played it by shouting in whispers. I remember someone commenting it made him think Elsinore castle was haunted by a Sea Devil.
