Who tops more, Draco or Harry? - HD-fan-fair analysis

Apr 06, 2015 01:13

It's the time you've all been waiting for, where we learn Who tops more in hd-fan-fair fics, Draco or Harry?

The impetus for this project came from my original " Who Tops More" post, where I looked at nearly 1500 fics from my own personal database. That post generated a ton of feedback in the comments, which made me decide to run the numbers again ( Read more... )

2013 was the book fair, whereas the other years were career fair or travel fair. Don't know if that made a difference.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that would make a difference, but then, I don't really have *any* idea about what would have made a difference, other than pure chance. But it's certainly something to keep in mind as we try to make sense of it all :)

The data base is so small for 2013 that I think this anomaly goes down to coincidence. If you really do another set of stats for another fest, such as H/D Smoochfest, I am pretty sure, the general trend you noted over the years, will be affirmed.

I think this is very cool! And I think it's a great idea to do it for more fests and run the results for them combined!

Thanks so much for the awesome info you've provided us with!

You're welcome! It seems like several people are interested in finding out the data for more fests, so that's probably going to happen. Yay!

This is an interesting hypothesis. And the best thing about gathering lots of data is that we can potentially test all sorts of cool hypotheses :)

So the question here is whether the age of the characters in the fic has any correlation with who tops or bottoms. I don't know, but yeah, we could certainly try to find out! We would need to beef up the data in the "time frame" field to get more details, and as a data nerd I always welcome more data :)

It is my hope, actually, that people will continue to add data to the spreadsheet as they read more fics. It would be a lovely resource for fans for as long as people want it. And we'll have enough data to keep me (and everyone) busy answering these questions for a long time to come :)

Thank you so much for all the work and everyone who filled the blanks! I'm too curious how the statistics will change over time.

You're welcome! I'm hoping that people will continue to fill in any remaining blanks in the future. Like when this year's fan-fair starts posting, we can add that data to the spreadsheet too, and have even more statistics to analyze :)

Yeah, 2013 is kinda strange. While bottom!Harry was always around 20~30% throughout the years, bottom!Draco was 80% in 2013 (not to mention that year also had 'Bottom!Draco Adaptations Fest'

Yeah, when I posted about "Who Tops More" the first time, we saw a bit of a blip in 2013 too, and eidheann suggested it could be because of the bottom!Draco Adaptations fest. And that certainly makes sense if you're looking at all fics from 2013 regardless of what fest they were written for. But when you're just focusing on one fest like fan-fair, I wonder how much influence the bottom!Draco fest would have on that. I mean, I just don't know! :) But sometimes statistics are just weird for no particular reason too :)
