I use text alot. And I can say 40% of it is tiny. Its just that sometimes when you see an icon, and you put tiny text on it. It meshes. At other times its people just throwing it on, and it does look HIDEOUS.
Oh, of course! It always depends on.. well, everything. ;P Sometimes that's the only reason mine will have such small text, because.. any bigger would just look stupid and ruin the whole effect. Even then though, my text means something. ;)
My rant (which was in my journal a few months back, so you probably missed it):
People who's tiny text icons are nominated in awards communities for best lyrical icon or best quote icon.
Umm, if I can't read what it says, it can't be the best lyrical/quote icon. And some weeks, every one that's nommed is illegible.
Yeah, I use tiny text now and then, but never by itself. Usually I use it when I have a long quote. The main part of the quote will be legible (see above icon) but the rest will be smaller for artistic reasons. But for the most part, I really don't like tiny text. Although I don't care if others use it; just as long as they are not claiming it's a great lyric icon.
It's all about the text for me, as well. And that's not to say I'll never use an icon with tiny text if I find it beautiful. It just means I'll ask the creator what it says so I'll know.
Too bad I don't have a decent program to make icons with. All I can really do is crop. *laughs*
Angel food cake...it's been far too long, my love.
I'm with you on the small text thing--sometimes it's pretty, but really, I'd rather be able to read it. But then again, I'm not very deeply invested. I'm a shallow opinion haver. ;D
