Clowns love you to focus on the mask. It's when you try to get behind the mask, they get scared, they run, they hide.

behind another mask, perhaps a new one or perhaps one that has worked or been a comfort zone in the past.

Or they start making balloon animals just hoping not to run out of breath before they can get that mask secured once more.
