Might be the longest entry ever...

I got back from New York last night after three rescheduled connecting flights (was supposed to get home around 6, but I got home around 9). NY is the most amazing place on earth. There's just no other city that has its vibrancy. It has its own personality, its own quirks and strengths. So, with that said, let me take you on a magical mystery tour ( Read more... )

Aww... you two are so cute. You even have similar eyes.

Make sure and let us know when the wedding is so we can come out.

Is this your first time in NY? Your description leads me to think so, and that you had the same head over heels love affair that I did when I went. It was just so... alive. I remember going to a place in the East(?) Village at 4 am for borscht and the place was packed. It was nuts. But I loved every minute of it. Looking at your pics and reading the descriptions was like a trip down memory lane (that building on Columbia's campus was two blocks from my friend Ben's building, and I loved that walk). Now I'm, again, itching to go back. But I don't think it would be as fun with a baby. Different, but I doubt she'd have the patience to spend hours and hours at Ellis Island or wandering around shops in the Village or... yeah. Oh well. Someday.

Well, I went once when I was about 8 and I just remember the basics (Empire State Building, FAO Schwartz, and the Statue of Liberty). Then my family went three years ago, but it's a much different experience touring the city alone than seeing it with aging parents. And I've also changed drastically in three years, so my perception of NYC changed too, interestingly enuogh. Plus, it's a wonderful thing to discover a city with someone you care about =) If I end up moving there, you can sure bet I'd be happy to babysit while you wander and have fun. Plus, it's always better having somewhere to crash than spending wads on a hotel =)

I think that my favorite day was the morning that I took off by myself, took the subway downtown, and wandered up Fifth Avenue. I went to St. Patrick's for mass, and Grand Central Station, and the library, and then finished in Central Park-- quite the walk. It was a gorgeous fall morning, and the city was still joined by the cohesiveness that had come after the terror attacks (I was there in November 2001). I had never spent a lot of time doing something like that by myself, and it was such an eye opening thing that I resolved to spend more time solo. I think, when I'm older and don't have kids at home, that I'd like to take a solo vacation.

I took the same walk! Isn't St. Patrick's just a wonder? This beacon of old-world beauty in the midst of steel and windows. However, I still haven't done Central Park. I wanted to see it for the first time with Ian and, since he had to work during the days, we never got a chance to do that. So someday I'll see it =) Perhaps you don't have to wait until you're older and the kids are grown.... if I move there, maybe you could take a week vacation and revisit your favorite places? Besides, it would be fun to have girls outings together =)

Dude! I TOTALLY want to be Kate Winslet! We may be a beautiful couple, but we'll still remember the little people. Occasionally.
