Phew. I have been reading and reading after the giant freakout the Valleywag post created! (I suppose technically the layoffs are the source of the reason to freak out, but the sensational tone of the post did not help.) I can't see LJ at work any more, as you know, so I had to wait until now.

I tried the Wordpress thing myself awhile back, but getting people to use RSS readers is like pulling teeth for some reason. Everyone's just too used to LJ.

I love Wordpress, the interface is great for writing IMO, plus you can customize the hell out of it.. but yeah LJ does have that sense of community for whatever reason.

I have been toying with Wordpress, but not to leave LJ - to have a slightly different (and more focused) place for "real" writing. I don't intend to stop long boring weekend rundowns or anything, as they really do function as a memory dump for me. I'm interested in what backup you use for LJ, though.
