On this day in Genesis history: In 1972 the band were in rehearsals for Foxtrot. It would be the second album with the classic 5-man lineup. In 1987 they were recovering from a massive 4 night engagement at Wembley Stadium, a crowning achievement to add to the Invisible Touch tour ( Read more... )

Why a pickup truck? Just curious.

Well, in part because I can imagine being at the thrift store and being like, I want to take that piece of furniture home! Or things like that. I also like that I could help my friends. Also I think girls driving trucks is hot.

You never know when you might need to tow something!

1. Gas Mileage: I'm EXTATIC when my 4 cylinder pickup gets 21 MPG
2. Parking: parking spaces tend to be a lot tighter when driving a pickup truck.
3. Handling: pickup trucks are almost by definition rear-wheel-drive vehicles. they also have almost 0 integral mass in the rear of the vehicle. This only exacerbates the familiar handling problems of rear-wheel-drive vehicles, as the rear tires will spin pretty easily. This makes driving in rain and snow far more treacherous. This can be somewhat alleviated by purchasing a 4wd truck, or keeping heavy stuff int the bed, but those will both negatively impact factor 1.

#1 and #3 are the prime concerns I have against getting a truck. They may prevent it happening yet. I've always been so proud of being a small car owner... but... truck so handy... :-/

For now it looks like my car works anyways.

Whatever. That would be seriously, seriously hypocritical of me to be like, "Stop being exuberant and verbose." :)

I am all about the chili cook-off. I volunteer to help in any way I can! Also to cook a pile of chili.

I'm trying to think of the best way to stage it. I think it will have to happen after Paul's couch is gone, or we might have to reposition that temporarily. I was thinking if I got an extra table (or got the table my parents have for me) we could have at least 8 staged chilis for tasting - if not more. Depending on whether people bring crock pots.

I will need to practice making cornbread.

Cornbread is easy. But practice DOES make perfect, plus you wind up with lots of cornbread.

I have at least one crock pot and I have a big pot where I could do one on the stove. Er, not that I need to bring two kinds, but just in case!

You know what could be fun? If people bring one they've already made for tasting, and if we made up a chili on the spot, everyone brings a few favorite ingredients and we experiment! I have a card table I could donate to the cause.

Do you think a card table will be sufficient for several large hot pots of chili? I have one too. I am sure we will make this work!
