I went on vacation in Iceland with rhean, gigglefest, dscott, shaina_j, and Vicka last week. There might be a real post later, but in the meantime, some random thoughts after returning

I think I should take a longer vacation next time. It was nice spending time with friends, but felt a bit short.
Go to iPAC and wander around Europe for 10 days or so. :)
And yeah, it was a bit short, but such is the way of internet specials, I think. I want to go back sometime, maybe for a week, spending a couple days in Reykjavik and the rest of the time exploring other parts of the country. This trip was a good teaser. :)
We went to the Blue Lagoon, the National Museum, and shopped in Downtown Reykjavik, and spent time in a really nice crunchy cafe. We also went to the local geothermal pool several times. We wanted to see the Northern lights, but the only night that really fit in our schedule was Thursday night, and the weather didn't work out. Well, Tuesday night could have worked, but by that point, we'd been up for about 29 hours with 2-3 hours of bad sleep on the plane. In retrospect, going to sleep during the day probably would have been good. Oh well.
Oh wow, I didn't realize you all took a trip out there! What prompted this?
It's always interesting to spend a lot of time with a few people on a trip, and then be parted... you have this extra bit of closeness, and it is weird to just be wandering around in daily life afterwards.
doma found a cheap deal on slickdeals.net ($625 for airfare plus three nights in a nice hotel), and since the exchange rate was nice too (doubled in our favor from a year ago), we went! (Well, actually, logistics made it such that she couldn't go, but the rest of us did.) It turns out that the New York Times also reported on the particular deal we took: http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/10/25/business/worldbusiness/25travel.html
