It is tax payers money yes. The navy counts as defence, which comes out of the budget.

Of course it is in our interest that our navy feel comfortable on their ships so they do their job well, but ipod connectors are just plain excessive as you have seen yourself. I bet they get free ipod's too...

Not to attack the ipod or anything, its a great little player, but in general this whole ipod craze is getting annoying... I've seen car hi-fi's with them now, cd recorders, media centres, wireless music streamers. I mean, come on!

Even ipod speakers are a big hit now, whereas I have been building my own portable speakers for 10 years now and you couldn't even purchase a decent amplified pair back then - but now my stuff doesn't seem as impressive! That little player has certainly opened the flood gates to a lot of markets!

As somone I know pointed out, suppose they have an iRiver? Maybe the Navy will be providing ipods to everyone on board as you say lol
