Summary Lorelai invites Spike in.
There's a vampire. In her bedroom.
She knows the ropes when it comes to teenage rebellion. Drinking, stolen cigarettes...boys stuffed into closets, rolled under beds. A dramatic and often uncalled for response to strict parents and stricter rules. Tonight had started that way: grounded for arriving home late last night (only 4 minutes. Richard would have let her get away with it, but Relentless Emily was the one to catch her), so she'd snuck out. Climbed down the tree outside.
She'd nearly pulled a Pollyanna, too, her fingers slipping on the rough bark five feet above the ground. She'd risked life and limb for a seedy bar that didn't card and a boy that looked too much like Billy Idol to be truly bad-ass.
But he'd been sweet. Or he'd bought her a drink, anyway. She'd let him lead her back to the too big house with it's too big rules and listened while he told her about the girl who'd just dumped him. Drew or something. And she'd invited him in. She wasn't going to let him do anything, really.
She didn't scream when she saw his face, but she stumbled backward, landed hard on the scraped skin of her palm. And he'd kept on advancing. Now he's standing over her, all fangs and bumps and ew. And she's trying to remember. Vampires...holy water...cross? She's suddenly grateful for her protestant upbringing and the cross that's been hanging over her bed since her baptism. When she lunges for it her wrist feels like it's going to snap off, but her fingers find wood and he rears backward and growls...dives out the window.
She doesn't sleep for three nights, but she doesn't sneak out, either.
