choco_cherries Tim Riggins drinks more than anyone she’s ever seen; more than Marissa, even, and the Step-monster, and Kirsten Cohen after a night with Mr. Nichol. Tim Riggins drinks beer like he’s Julie Cooper-Nichol and it’s going out of style.
And when she’s with him, Summer drinks, too.

Her teenage years were all about Champagne from Champagne and the most expensive bottle of vodka that could be pilfered from Jimmy Cooper’s liquor cabinet without suspicion. In Dillon alcohol comes in kegs at parties where everyone wears cotton with Old Navy flip-flops and talks about football.
--
Beer, Summer learns, works just as well as Marissa’s stolen vodka. And, it would seem, Summer was born to play Quarters.
She even looks good in Tim’s “Panther’s Football” t-shirt.

She lets her hair curl in Texas, leaves her straightener in the duffel stuffed under Tim’s bed. She wears less make-up, too, and when her nail-polish starts to chip she buys remover at the grocery store that hums with fluorescence and leaves her nails plain.

Seth calls some nights, later than he intends because he forgets about time zones. He asks if she likes Texas and when she’s coming home. Sometimes she lets his calls go to voicemail and listens to his voice stretch over the desert while Tim snores softly beside her.

When she makes an effort, she can even understand the football. The passion for it, anyway, because it’s a powerful feeling, loving something enough to let it break your heart. She wonders, sometimes, if Tim thinks he peaked in high school, if Tim even thinks to think about these things. She tries to ask him one morning, before his first beer of the day, if he misses it, but he doesn’t answer.
