I'm not sure how much I have... One reason is that the girl is pretty good at packing suff into cupboards. The main reason is that I havn't decided how much to ship - there are a lot of things that I would like to keep, but if I have to part with a huge wodge of cash I can live without...
Actually, I know somone who is leaving soon, and they have already done a lot of ringing around. The thing is, to get quotes for the company to pack they come to your house, look at all your stuff, and then give you an estimate. I think that service will be too expensive, but will probably have better breakage insurance. I'd like to get a very rough estimate before wating my time and theirs (especially because I will decide what I want to take based on how much extra it will cost me) but it dosn't seem to work like that. I started looking into it last year, but cheap companies shipping from Japan in English seemed a bit thin on the ground.
Also, I was hoping somone might know about customs paperwork. The cheapest option means I have to do that myself and I have no idea what it involves. Obviously I can look into it, but I thought I'd see if anyone had experienced somthing like it and could save me the touble of looking. I prefer to think of it as being economical with effort, rather than lazy.
I know a friend found it more cost effective to repurchase most of her stuff when she got back to Malaysia than to ship it over from England. It probably depends on what you have and how cheaply (if at all) it can be replaced at the other end.
Thanks. I thought about that, and it's probably the case with most of my stuff. Trouble is I form irrational attachments to junk. There are a few things that I would prefer not to part with; my guitar is not too shoddy and I have a lot of souveneirs. I think that I can get enough stuff together to justify a meter cubed box, especially as there are two of us.
A friend who is leaving for England on Friday got a quote for about 200 pounds for a meter cubed, although you have to pick it up from the port and deal with UK customs yourself for that price. I'm guessing that any of the more complete services will cost too much extra. We might look into that during the week.
