I write in circles, which is a vague way of saying that I never know where a story's going to end up when I start it. I never go from point A to point B, I just have an impression of a possible story and start writing, and if the idea's good, little circles and patterns start to form and I go from there ( Read more... )

I write in a very similar fashion, but when I do Nanowrimo, I've found it helps to outline the first half of the story in rough form. That leaves me a place to start, and I can tell at a glance if I've got something of sufficient complexity to carry me through the number of words I need.
