Vajravarahi (Bajra Barahi) Temple, Chapagaon, Kathmandu Valley

The ancient temple of Vajravarahi (1665) is situated in a small woodland park located about ten kilometers south of Patan, near the village of Chapagaon.

«The sacred ground round the shrine is protected by the wall. Within its precincts are lodgings for piligrims, and there is a court-yard around the shrine itself. The main object of cult is an unhewn stone, in wich the goddess Vajravarahi is worshipped. This shrine is part of a series of 8 shrines which together protect the whole valley of Kathmandu, being the territory of the Newars. Hindus as well as Buddhists come to these shrines to present offerings to the goddess.» (Religion in Nepal, K.R. Van Kooij)
