I don't know if it's allowed but it would be totally awesome if you could do it
cause a few years back my computer crashed and I lost every single fic I had saved .... and I never had the strength to start it all over again ^^'

Hi there. No, it's not a good idea to upload other writers' stories to make them available for distribution. Many writers, Rakina included, have RL reasons for taking down their fics. It's would be comparable to creating an archive and adding fics without contacting the author for permission. That's why people compile rec lists that link to the fics rather than reposting them entire; the fics don't belong to you, and the writer has final say over what's available on the net. I'm sure that if you tried and some of the writers found out, they would have you reported and shut down, and a lot of bad feeling would be stirred up.

Emailing copies by request is usually considered acceptable because it's one-on-one and maintains some level of privacy for the writer. Unless, of course, the writer has requested that readers not distribute their fics at all.

So please don't do this. It's very bad form and can potentially create problems and outraged feelings, both for the writers and between fans of the 'ship.

Thank you perverse_idyll. I understand and had a feeling that this would be frowned upon so I won't put it up on the sites. Occasus's fics I will still send via email when someone requests them on the thread here on snarryficfind but the other fics I will just hold on to and if someone requests something and I have it, I will gladly send it to them.

Thanks again for explaining it so clearly!

Oh, you're very welcome. I understand the temptation -- I've been caught short without a saved copy of a favorite fic and been extremely grateful that someone was able to email me a copy -- but I've seen this issue come up before, and it gets very contentious. I have online friends who were forced to yank their fic and art down because it could possibly have jeopardized a RL situation for them, even potentially caused a loss of their job.

Also, with the rise in Tumblr fandom of reposting without attribution, I've noticed a lot of writers and artists are concerned for the way their work is basically appropriated without taking their wishes into consideration -- or even acknowledging them as creator.

Thanks for being so understanding! :)

Not at all to sound contentious about this statement ('cause I've written a ton of fanfic in my day), but, isn't it ever so-slightly-hypocritical for any fanfic writer to take this stance when it's the exact same argument that the original creator(s) of a media universe can make against distributed fanficton in general? And with MUCH more justification ( ... )

In other maybe slightly less moronic directions from me personally, are Occasus's fics any good? I've never happened across any and now I'm curious. Again sorry about that stupid question. I wish we didn't live in a world where someone's fanfic writing or art could some how cost them a job.. I personally don't see it but I can see the world being like that unfortunately.

Hi there!
Sorry for the late reply, I was asleep when your question got in (I live in South Africa).

I personally love Occasus's writing - most of the ideas are original and well thought out. I can't quite remember how good the grammar and writing style is (I haven't read the fics in a while) but I think it was alright.

Here is a link to where I've compiled a list of Occasus's fics that are still available online and you can also just comment with your email address and I'll send you the ones that are not available anymore.

Hope this helps :)
