Just a quick note at the top here -- 'brouhaha' is something that for me, has always been just another word for 'fight' or 'commotion' or similar. The entry below is written with that definition in my mind.

It really was. That was almost 25 years ago, and it was still hard to consciously remember it and write it -- it was still very vivid after all this time.

It is one of the more awful memories I have, yes. And unfortunately, where the specifics of 'good' memories tend to slip away over time, the horrifying ones remain crystal clear for many, many years.

Oh my god! That's horrifying. I thought this was going to be one of those stories about parents on line with their children being nasty to their own kids or something, because I see that at amusement parks all the time, where the mom will call her daughter fat and not let her eat or something. This is more on the holy shit level. I think you did a good job of conveying it, too.

It was perhaps the most 'holy shit!' moment I've ever personally witnessed, yes. And so quick. It really was one of those things where it's over before you even realize what you're seeing. Later, when you have time to process it -- that's when the horror really came through.
