Thank you. It's hard to write about something so sorrowful, but it's been on my mind recently, and when we got the second open topic, it was like a sign.

Oh, I am so sorry. The real happiness of discovering a new friend just abruptly turned tragic. There is no missing the devastation you described. You remember it like it was yesterday.

It was quite surprising how clearly I could remember some of the details when I went to write this -- I would have thought 30 years would have dulled it a bit more, but that wasn't the case.

What a terrible way to discover your friend's death. And it just breaks my heart that a little boy of 10 was so sad...

I'm not sure there's a good way to hear such news, but you are so correct that this particular way was just so horribly abrupt and shocking.

Loss is so very hard at any time, of course -- but pre-16 years old or so is just especially rough. You just don't have the experience in life to properly understand and process what has happened.

How sad :( I also learned about a friend's death from a newspaper article and will never forget how painful that moment was.

It was amazing how clearly I remembered the details and feelings as I wrote this, yes. I'm sorry you had to experience a similar event yourself.
